BlackForestCO (978) - Aurora, Colorado, USA - APR 21, 2012
On tap at the brewery. Poured a clear golden color with a moderate white head that faded to a soapy layer and left some spotty lacing. Aroma of fruit (lemon, some pear), earthy, dusty yeast, some pepper, and a herbal hoppiness. Smooth, lightly sweet entry with a light citrus tatrness moves into a dry, spicy bitterness with a moderate yeastiness paired with the same herbal hops found in the nose that linger into the finish. Moderate carbonation and dry mouth feel. Overall, the dryness is nice and often seems to be lacking in American saisons, not so in this one.

On tap as 6.6% with 40 IBUs. Slightly hazy honey gold, with some barnyard and hay funk, some wheat and bubblegum tang toward back of aroma. Lemon and wheat hit first on the palate, with a bubblegum background and a refreshing saison funk at the end. Full flavored with a lingering finish.
