3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pint at the brewery. Here we go again with another very solid Denver beer that has a score in the 50s for no reason. Pour is dark, dark brown with ruby hints at the edge of the goblet. A small khaki head forms on top. The aroma is malt forward and English-leaning. Notes of toffee, earth, chocolate, lighter roasted coffee and leather are here. Palate is medium, right on for this style. Good clean malty flavor with more nuttiness than in the aroma. A little brown sugar comes through, chocolate, a modest roastiness, and an earthy, woody finish. There are no flaws, this is very well balanced and pleasant to drink. Solid example of British-style beer.

On tap at the brewery. Almost black appearance with a lacy tan head. Aroma and flavor of roasted malts, bitter chocolate, coffee, light earthy hops and toasted grains. Medium body. Pretty tasty, one of the better beers I’ve had here.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
On tap at brewery, was told this was a test batch with an Irish yeast instead of the English they normally use. I did not care for it.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap @ Strange. Deep brown color with thick tan head. Scents of cocoa, molasses, malt extract, coffee. Flavor has a fair amount of earthy hop bitterness for a porter plus coffee, licorice, and liquid smoke. Body is a little too light, hops a little too present for this beer. Would love more roasty/chocolate and a hint more sweetness in this one, but i do like the complexity.
