Poured a dark brown/black color with a huge light brown head. Aromas of milk chocolate, roasted malt and vanilla. On the palate, this one is medium bodied, with flavors of cocoa powder, roasted malt and vanilla.

Pours black with a sudsy tan head - a fairly creamy and robust porter, with a nice balance of sweetness, roast and bitterness - starts with a bit of dry cocoa and black malt bitterness - coffee-ish roast through the middle, as a creamy sweetness gradually develops and lasts through the finish - a bit of a hop kick at the end - creamy, medium bodied, and pretty tasty.

On tap at the brewery. Pours with a small tan head over a near black body. Aromas of licorice, vanilla, chocolate, mild esters and just a hint earthy/musty. Flavors are nice, chocolate notes, vanilla, molasses, lightly earthy and a bit floral. Medium bodied with medium to slightly lighter carbonation.

Tap. Pours brown with a medium, fizzy and frothy tan head, medium-short retention with spotty lacing. Aroma is dark malt (chocolate, roast) with notes of prunes, dates, and lactose sugars. Flavor is medium malt, light bitterness, sweet palate then lightly dry finish. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation.

Sample at Brewers Rendezvous 7/09/11. Pours a thin, short duration, off white head, over a dark brown (SRM 35) hazy body....nose is heavy coffee, lighter chocolate, with a touch of toffee/caramel.....taste is medium coffee, chocolate, finishing with a light bitterness.....mouth feel medium, carbonation medium. On tap at Strange Brewing poured a clear dark brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, bitter chocolate, light vanilla and a hint of earthiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dryu finish. Flavors of roasted malt, bitter chocolate and light earthiness with a smooth dry roasty finish.

On tap as 5.5% with 29 IBU. Dark brown with ruby tones, and a light khaki head that doesn’t last. Aroma of sweet coffee grounds, and some light chocolate malt. Taste was wet coffee grounds, some chocolate, some caramel, and some very mild hop bitterness. Not sure why I didn’t like it more. Maybe just too light bodied, or not roasty or chocolaty enough.

On tap @ Strange. Deep brown color with thick tan head. Scents of cocoa, molasses, malt extract, coffee. Flavor has a fair amount of earthy hop bitterness for a porter plus coffee, licorice, and liquid smoke. Body is a little too light, hops a little too present for this beer. Would love more roasty/chocolate and a hint more sweetness in this one, but i do like the complexity.

(Draught) Pours a dark brown (near black) body with a moderate cream head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, and dates. Flavor of roasted malt, earth/dirt, light coffee, and chocolate.
