Light amber pour with a white head. The aroma is fairly nice with a little bit of light estery fruit. Soft lightly toasted malt. Fairly soft minerally bitterness. Light sweetness but in general it’s pretty decent. Tasty and quaffable.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 RC8 (303) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 2, 2010
Interesting hybrid between a typical lager and a typical ale. A moist skunky lager-like feel finishes with a more hoppy ale-like finish with a tad of malt. Enjoyable and sessionable, though not overwhelmingly interesting apart from the style.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Spab (1118) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 31, 2010
On tap at Volo. Pours a clear copper with a decent-sized off-white head. Aroma of grains and sweet fruit. Taste has a nice fruity sweetness mixed with some mild grassy bitterness. Ok.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 pootzboy (1284) - Hawgville, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 20, 2010
On tap:
Puts a copper-amber ’lagale’ in the glass, weak head goes to a ring.
Aromas of caramel, some toasty malts, hop grassyness.
Tastes like a typical English amber except low on fruity tones, sweetish, malty, light bittering.nothing really out standing but a good clean steam beer.
I’m glad a local brewer decided to take on this underestimated style. Calif. Steam beer needs a more tuned in audience before it is appreciated. This was a fair representation of the stle. Lacked some fruitiness and the sharp mouth feel.
