3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 tombyars (1205) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - OCT 27, 2012
Tasted this in the Esquire House, Glasgow (JDW) in October 2012. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear pale copper in colour with a thin white head. A slight hint of butterscotch in the short aroma. Surprisingly thin mouthfeel but excellent lacing. Pale malt base gives a biscuity note with pink grapefruit and redcurrant evident. Could not detect any butterscoth flavour despite being present in the aroma though. Earthy damp hop flavour with a metallic edge appearing in the short bitter aftertaste. Finish is malty with dry woody redcurrant notes and a warm alcoholic burr. This is a Strong Ale but one that lacks depth and complexity of flavours for ales of that strength, tasting more like a 5.5%
2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20 Nilz (221) - Glasgow, SCOTLAND - OCT 27, 2012
Dark red with an off white head with coarse lacing. Aroma sweet floral and malty. Taste sweet malty dry fruits minimal bitterness. Fine enough, although I was left wondering if it is a bit of a missed opportunity to have made more of a statement as the name implied something of a landmark.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 AleTsar (1337) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - OCT 19, 2012

Amber, dense white thin head, clear, good lacing
Aroma - light caramel malts, very dull nose
Taste - sweet pale caramel malts, some honey, smooth creamy pale malt, booze not well hidden at all, some grain, simple dull flavour
Palate - soft carb, medium body, oily smooth. Finish as main flavour, dull, bitterish bit metallic booze, sweet light grain malt
Overall - At 7% i’d expect a lot more flavour than this...dull

Cask @ The Pot Still. Copper brown colour, not much head. Fruity resin aroma. Rich fruity alcohol liquorice flavour. A bit sickly & unbalanced. Don’t like this one.
