COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Sold as Toby’s IPA at the Toby Jug in Glasgow.
A refreshing drink made with Maris Otter malted barley and Clyde Valley hops.
It is a light coloured IPA making it an especially pleasant session ale which captures the pedigree of the famous draught horses still to be seen around the Strathaven area.

Bottle, courtesy of fonefan. It’s a clear, dark golden beer with a minimal sized white head. The aroma reminds me more of an English regular bitter than of an IPA, but what to expect at 3.8 % ABV. Biscuity malts, pine cones, grass and a fruity touch in the aroma. The body is a bit thin, but not thin, and the carbonation level is appropriate. Nice bitterness in the flavor, with fruityness and pine cones, and some pale malts in the back. Bitterness in the end. Decent. 110318

Bottle @ Norway/Denmark Tasting, Ulfborg. Pours cloudy golden with a small off white bubbly head. Nose is marmelade, fruit and grain. Dry and bitter flavor with grain and marmelade. A bit dusty. Dry and short hoppy end. Medium bodied.

Half pint, cask at Leslie Bar. Bright, yellow-gold body. Headless, fragile lacework. Hints of sweet dusty hops to the nose. Smooth fruits mixed with caramel malts in flavour. Not a typical IPA, just of whiff of bitter hops to the finish (Edinburgh, 02.12.2010).

From cask at Three Judges. Pours clear and golden yellow with a small, creamy and dense head. Aroma is fruity, mild hoppy and light toasted malt. Bitter, citrusy and crisp hoppy flavoured. Mild bitterness coming through into the finish. Ends medium dry.

Dull amber. The aroma is bland, caramelly. Soft body. Light toast, maybe a bit burnt with bland caramel. Nothing special, to say the least.

Cask @ Thompson Bar. Warm gold with stable head. Aroma is interesting pale Scottish malts with a hint of heather and ripe summer fruits. Silky palate. Wild berries and simple sugars in the malty flavors. Decent herbal finish.

UPDATED: DEC 11, 2015 Cask @ The Toby Jug as Toby’s IPA. Mild cereal resin aroma. Pale golden yellow colour with a good head. Dry biscuit cereal & citrus fruit flavour. Bitter aftertaste. A good golden ale. Updated rating for bottle. Orange amber, not much head. Toffee grain malt aroma. Dry caramel malt flavour. Bitter aftertaste. This is very different from the beer I used to really like. It has metamorphosed into an uninspiring bitter.
