On cask as Crystal Palace Ale at The Crystal Palace in Glasgow. Pours a dark, red - orange colour with a thick, light tan head. Aroma isn’t great with caramel, barley, Weetabix and rolled oats. Similar flavours with hoppy pine and grassy notes, rolled oats and yeast. Alcohol is fairly present with mild carbonation and a little oily mouth-feel. Not for me.

UPDATED: FEB 12, 2011 Cask @ The Sir John Moore as Sir John Moore Red Ale & The Counting House as The Counting House Red Ale. Mild fruity aroma, amber brown colour. Flavour of mixed fruit, biscuit and caramel. Dry finish. Reasonable bitter.

From cask @ Society Room JDW, as Strathaven Society Room Red Ale. Amber colour, off-white head. Aroma is slightly hoppy, fruity. Flavour is initially sweet fruity, then biscuit malts. Light bodied. Very average.

Cask at The New Oxford, Manchester as JDW Own / Not Any More. An amber beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes of malt and butter caramels. THe flavor is sweet with notes of malt and caramel, leading to a dry and lightly bitter finish. The body is light.

Cask (gravity) @ Smithfield Hotel, 37 Swan St, Manchester, Greater Manchester England M4 5JZ.
[ As JDW Own / Not Any Mor ]. Clear medium to dark red amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, butterscotch, light hoppy, grapefruit notes. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat to soft. [20090124]

Cask handpull at Standing Order, JDW, Edinburgh. Gold, lasting cream head. Attractive premium bitter, soft due to the sparkler, but decent hop/malt balance, hop is quite tasty and this went down easily enough

Cask, Standing Order JDW, Edinburgh, RBESG 07. Blonde gold (not bad for something advertised as a red ale on the pumpclip). Peppery, off-smelling vegetable nose. Mouth is hops, bitter end. Rotting fruit. Not good.

Cask conditioned at The Standing Order, Edinburgh (a JDW pub), as "Strathaven The Standing Order Red Ale" (allegedly brewed specially for this pub). ABV was 5.1%. Amber colour, low head. Very moderate aroma, nothing really stands out, maybe a hint of blackcurrant leaves. Fruity flavour, notes of red berries, decent hops. Quite nice.
