Magic_dave6 (3665), London, Greater London, England Nov 14, 2006 Updated: Oct 28, 2007The mexican is a fool, this is actually a porter not a sweet stout! (i know as i know the brewer well). Aroma is roasted malts, lightly coffee with some grassy hops and mint kicking through also. Taste is chocolate with light toffee sweetness, heather and grassy hops notes come through, not much of a finish though. RERATE: Cask in blackfriers. John changed the recipy which is noticable and has improved this beer alot. Aroma has noteable ginger and other spice, but subtly done as to keep the nice chocolaty malt base. Taste is similar ginger cuts through what is quite a sweetish chocolate base, incredible ale actually. Iv never sessioned a dark ber in my life before, but i sessioned this! KnutAlbert (2174), Oslo, Norway Aug 28, 2007 Bottle at RBESG. Coca-cola colour. Smoke, coffe and molasses. Dryish finish. Nice beer. Fin (2179), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Feb 28, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Craig cgarvieuk Cheers mate! Poured dark brown verging on black with a nice tan head. Aroma was a great rush of chocolate with some malt. Nice roasted malt taste quite understated, some dryness, but very moreish, chocolate was there along with some elements of coffee, I really liked this little beauty. Doppelganger (1114), Oxford, Oxfordshire, England Nov 8, 2006 Updated: Jul 17, 2008Re-rate: Aitken dispense system at the fantastic Bow Bar in Edinburgh. Train canceled, so had an hour to make a quick beeline here and back the the station to catch the next train. Deep black/brown, tan head. Abundant toasty grain aroma, coffee, rum mint ice cream, rustic swamp mud hint. Sweet chalky roast, hint o smoke. In good shape, this is an excellent pint. (Previous rating: Dark brown, just shy of black, small tan head. Light toffee aroma, perked coffee, a little tartness. Flavor reminscient of instant coffee with creamer, made with hard water. Soft palate, but a little thin. Okay. 6/3/5/3 10) Sigmund (1928), Hafrsfjord, Norway Aug 31, 2007 Bottle, at RBESG 2007 in Glasgow, Grand Tasting, as Craigmill Strathaven Trumpeter Dark Ale.
