some malts in the aroma, not a heavy beer at all, almost light in the texture, coffee after-taste, some roast, not bad

This one pours with about a finger of foam and is a clear, coppery color. The head does not stick around for long though. The aroma is somewhat malty. In the taste, I am getting some corn and then some butterscotch tones. I’m not sure what I think of this one. It is okay. Nothing to write home about. The body is pretty light and the carbonation is leaning towards high.

Um... I tried it at pints for pets. To be honest, the Straub guys looked kind of lonely. I appreciate it for what it is, but very ok at best. Aroma of corn and toffee. Pours an amber color. Pretty well carbonated, but very, VERY sweet. Not great, but better than a lot of other American light and dark lagers.

Pours deep coppery brown with off-white head. Nose has some caramel malt, earthy peaty notes, mild hops. Tastes malty, with a mild dark fruity and hop combination. I’d call this a good dark lager, but not a great one.

Pours a dark amber color with a white head. Mild taste with a smooth after taste. This lagers flavor is about as pleasant as they come. Very good.

Sampled on draught at Pints for Pets. Mild lager aroma. Bit of sweetness beyond the regular Straub. Light hops with beany character. Dark amber-orange,some copper color. Light fizzy head. Light watery body with light to medium carbonation. Starts with mild sweetness and some beany quality. A bit stale but fairly sweet and clean. Light smooth finish with a mild fruity character.

Pours a clear brown color with minimal fizzy offwhite head. Aroma is sweet dark caramel and a bit of earthiness. Flavor is light and sweet and carmely, but not much else. Easy to drink, but nothing special.

Nice lighter beer, pours heady and rather dark with an aroma of roasted malts, light in body but a nice roasted malt flavor dominates this beer, nice session beer if you want more than a light lager

I have been enjoying Straub’s my entire life. I was wondering when Peter would get his chance tp win over the family traditionalists and ’break out’ with some sort of hand crafted brew. Not surprised it is a lager, but think he is doing himself a disservice by calling it "Special Dark", which conhures up images of a hearty European ale. It’s certainly not that. It’s a lager reminiscent of Yuengling, but really light on the palate with a nice crisp finish. Boy am I going to drink a lot of this - a new summer favorite! I was hoping for some kind of hoppy beast, but for a small family brewery, this is a big step!
