Some of the most useful reviews on this board compare tastes of one beer to another and make it much easier (for me) to understand the rather subjective notion of taste. In this case, I’d compare Straub with Rolling Rock. The difference is that Straub has a better taste and no strange aftertaste (something that limits me to one or two RR’s). In the realm of comparing similarly priced adjunct (regional) macro lagers, this is a keeper. Smooth, easy to drink, nicely carbonated, refreshing, balanced taste, and (given its limited distribution area--PA and Ohio only, I think) quite fresh tasting as well. If you can find it, try it. Great stuff.

Yeah, I’ve been to Zeno’s and have had a Straub draft. It’s good. As for Darwin, either he’s a beer snob with a turtle neck or has never had a beer. Anyway, Straub’s a good, simple beer. Draft or Bottle are equal.

UPDATED: DEC 12, 2008 [draft at The Eternal Tap, Straub Brewery - St. Marys, PA] Pours a light golden color with a light white head. A grainy nose with an unusual taste, but very pleasant. Absolutely no aftertaste or bitterness. Very easy to drink. It tastes weird because they don’t add sugar or anything else like most beers do. Go to the brewery. Take the tour. Drink from the Eternal Tap. It is amazing!

UPDATED: APR 3, 2005 One of the best of the traditional American lagers. Light, grainy aroma, mild flavor with a slight toasty after-taste. THE beer for all day drinking (if you can handle the style). Re-Rate 3/21/04: I got a case of this in 16 oz returnables, and man, is it good. Perfect drinking beer. Nice grainy aroma, light, dry flavor with a nice yeast tang in the finish.

This is a sample of what a true beer should taste like... Not the Americanized beer that people have become accustomed to (sugary sweet).
STRAUB is a fresh, real beer that needs to be tried by those who want to break the ties of the sugary ’Majors" everyone else out there is drinking. Be your own person - Drink a real beer - Drink a STRAUB

Honestly fresh, particularly when you get it directly from the brewery. This is a great beer when fresh, I can’t say how it is after some shelf time though.

Honestly fresh indeed. it does taste "pure" you might say. Nice and crisp and definitely something different. The next day can be quite interesting tho.

Ok, I might be a little biased seeing as my second uncle Peter brews this in St. Mary’s but I live in Illinois, so this isn’t an everyday drink for me, or even an every year. However, I love the crispness of this beer and it cleans the palate unlike any other beer I’ve had. Now, the overall taste is ok, i’m not a big fan of wheat beers, but this is definetly worth a try if you’re in the Pennsylvania/Ohio region. -Now if I could only open up a store back home in illinois.

A bit of a wet blanket aroma, clear golden appearance, a smooth easy drink and nice after taste, not bad beer, quite good actually..."Beer in all its Glory" is not false advertising, abit over stated, but not false...freshness is the key, no sugar, no salt, no preservatives added. Brewed with mountain spring water which beats the hell out of the piss from Coors and the those big bad Rockies, hey the Allegheny/Appalachians might not be , well, mighty, but their water sure tastes better. And that makes for better tasting beer, huh Adolf?
