3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 tourtrappist (34) - SWEDEN - FEB 13, 2012
Smokey as a Single Malt Whisky but without the real punch. Strömsholms claims that they strive for balance which is fine - but I’d prefer a stronger mix. But it’s really good anyway :-)
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 jolo (766) - Uppsala, Sweden, SOUTH AFRICA - JAN 29, 2012
Bottle 33cl (Thanks a lot SaintMatty) A clear red-brown colour with a medium high, foamy, good lacing, beige head. An aroma of roasted malt, caramel, wood and smoke. The taste is heavy sweet, medium bitter and light salty. A medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation and a medium long duration. A smooth and well balanced smoked beer. Heavy in smoke flavor but not over the top.
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 TheJestersBeer (1661) - SWEDEN - JAN 29, 2012
330ml bottle, 2011 vintage.
Pours a deep copper, with a beige head.
The aroma is very smokey, lots of Islay elements, iodine, ashes, but also a note that reminds me of chlorine, or some sort of detergent, and it puts me off a bit. Caramel, faint diacetyl, quite spicy.
Off-dry, medium body and bitterness, creamy CO2.
The taste is also very smokey, lots of smoked malt, iodine, peat, seaweed (?), caramel, cinnamon, leather, cured meat. The chlorine touch is not that evident in the taste, which is a benefit. Quite well balanced, the smoked malt leaves a dry, ashy finish, with a lingering alcohol burn. (2012-01-29)
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 hackobock (272) - SWEDEN - JAN 13, 2012
Bottle from Systembolaget, 2011 edition. Dark brown/black, small off-white head that diseappers fast. Smokey, the Islay malt is distinct, a sweetness is present as well. Taste goes from sweet to smokey with a light bitterness linking the two together. I would prefer a creamier palate, a mild smokieness is lingering in the mouth after drinking.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 kschep (1494) - DENMARK - JAN 8, 2012
#1149 bottle; nose is weak bacon, decent ash, later rotten fruit, feel is watery, carb is mediumlow, taste is ash, sour earth, mediumweak, dry malt, late wood, note of cooked vegetables and a weak hops finish. aftertaste is cashew and cream
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 NordicV (760) - Malmö, Sweden, SWEDEN - JAN 4, 2012
Mörkt brun med dragning åt svart. Smutsvitt skum som försvinner snabbt. Doften är nästan Islay whisky rakt av. Torv, trä och rökighet, bara alkoholrivigheten saknas. Inte så extrem som Paradox Smokehead. Kroppen är inte så fyllig. Rökigheten dominerar, whiskey och cigarr.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 _angst_ (1743) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - JAN 2, 2012
330 ml bottle bought @ Systembolaget and consumed on January 1. 2011 vintage. Pours dark chestnut brown with a small fizzy off-white head that quickly dissipates without leaving much trace on the glass. Smell is slightly sweet and packed with peat, smoke and wood. Smells quite similar to Islay whisky. Taste is sweet and malty with some smoke, peat, tar and wood. Quite balanced with a smooth mouthfeel. Finish is slightly dry with smoke.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 thomat (1545) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - DEC 31, 2011
Reddish brown with a small tan head. Smokey ! Smoke, malt and some sour bitterness. Medium body with a sour, bitter after taste. ( unbalanced )
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Plovmand (5711) - Helsinge, DENMARK - DEC 16, 2011
Bottle. Pours brown with a small tan head. Holy crap! This shit is smoked! Loads of peat, smoke, ash and tobacco in the nose. The flavour is heavily peated with notes of sweet malt, sweet tobacco, smoke and whisky. The most extreme smoked I had so far.
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Jonte (1329) - Gothenburg, SWEDEN - DEC 10, 2011
Bottle 2011. 6% ABV. Reddish brown colour with a beige head. Smoky and peaty aroma. Peat smoke flavor with notes of barnyard, medicine, licorice, rather sourish. A bit too thin mouthfeel and one-demensional flavor. I prefer the german type of smoky beers.
