COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Pours hazy redbrown with tanned head. Strong aroma of smoke and tar. Taste is 100% smoke and tar. Its to much because it completley takes over. To much smoke for me.

Bottle. Dark brown, hazy. Pretty heavy smoky bbq, beef jerky nose. Quite well bodied, soft. Smoky malts, some sweetness. Dry, medium bitter. Bbq sauce. Ok. Good nose, a bit dusty yeasty body. Soft and nice.

On tap. Aroma very smoky, peat, smoked meat, wood, earth and dark malt. Taste is also very smoky, some dried fruit, wood and soil, some mineral-like notes. Finish is nice and smoky.

Bottle. Hazy brown, thin head. Compact smoky aroma, and the smoke dominates the flavour, too. Some malty body here, but it is very dominated by the peat - the hops are not allowed to shine. Nice, but it is a bit off balance for my liking.

2012 edition, 330ml bottle with 5,9% ABV. A nice interpretion of a Rauchbier , but too a bit too gentle. With all the references to Islay whiskies I expected loads of peat, but no. Still a pretty ok beer though.

Aroma: The smell is burned wood and leather. A lingering newly lit matches reveales some sulfur. Sour wet felt.
Appearance: The beer is clear dark redbrown with hints of red, a small tan head with some lacing and good curtains.
Taste: The old burned wood taste is dominating, a bit of cutlery and dried dark fruits, some bread sweetness.
Palate: Mediumcarbonation, small bubbles, soft and smooth, a medium body, a slow dry finish.
Overall: A bit too much sour smoke for me.
Note: Bottle 330 ml. (Vintage 2012) Reviewed 2012-12-18.
