COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Danish: Espresso Rye Stout.

Bottle shared with friends - Color: deep black beer with no carbonation and small brown head. Smell: roasted malt, oat, chocolate and coffee. Good malt work. Taste: nice palate, grain taste as rye and oat, dry malt sensation. Roasted malt chocolate and coffee. Aftertaste: super coffee and chocolate good equilibrium and small sweet finish. Super!

Bottle. Pours cloudy very dark brown with airy but stable tan head. Clear aroma of malt, caramel, chocolate and coffee, with some fruity notes. Sweetish flavour of caramel malt and chocolate, complemented by roasty and bitter notes of coffee and alcohol. Roasty aftertaste with some estery hints. Warming alcohol presence. Soft carbonation. Decent.

My other favourite beer style. Really good but not astonishing. Vety dark colour. Light Brown head. Richly spiced.

Bottle from 2013. Pours a pitch black with a big, brown head. Aroma has some peat, but it’s not that the beer is particularly smokey. Vanilla, roasty malts, coffee, dark, dry cocoa powder. Taste is much stronger with coffee, hard roasted malts, slight ashy, some old hops. Very bitter and fairly low sweetness. Nice full body, medium low carb. Nice surprise!

Bottle. Pours pitch black, with a thick hazelnutty head. Nose is dry stable, roasted malts and some vanilla. Very full-bodied, thick beer! Quite herbal bitternes, dry wood, roasted malts, slight pumpernikkel and rye, with ending notes of dark, bitter chocolate!

Bottle. Pours pitch black with nut-brown dense one finger head. Aroma is toasty, malt, some peat but not very smoky? Dark chocolate and some burnt sugar. Taste is robust and hard roasted. Bitter dark malts, tastes of lot more than aroma. The body is quite smooth due the rye and does balance out the hard roast. Dark chocolate and dry cocoa powder. Some spicy liquorice too. Some herbal fainted hops in finish. A shame with the fainted aroma.

I’ve had rye IPAs before but never a rye stout (I think) and this works very well. The rye gives the malt a cherry/whiskey-aged sweetness that is perfect for an imperial stout. Aside from that there is chocolate and of course plenty of coffee. This is really very good.
