Uncaged Stout
An easy drinking stout. Velvet on the palate with a complexity of fruity dark malt flavours to follow.

Aroma: Buttery, chocolate and roasted malt aroma. Not very powerful.

Appearance: Jet black body with a medium light brown head that gradually fades. Slight lacing.

Taste: Roasted malts, vanilla and milk chocolate.

Palate: Thin body with a watery texture. Average carbonation.

Overall: Pleasant and easy drinking but not particularly flavourful.

Pours very dark brown. Taste has chocolate, malts, coffee, a little bit toffee. Despite all these things, it does end up being a bit on the watery side, not a very strong taste. Ok to drink, anyway, mostly due to the slight taste of coffee.

Bottle 50 CL. Pours black brownish with thin brown fast vanishing head and a roasted scent. Notes of chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, nuts, malts, licorice. Thin body. Slightly watery. Easy drinkable tho.

500ml bottle (K Kamppi, Helsinki)
Nice nearly black, ruby glints. Nice chocolatey aroma, some esters that remind me of orange because of the chocolatey backdrop. Fairly watery palate, a little flat and dead. Pleasantly roasty body, less eplicitly chocolatey. Pleasant estery retronasals, I like that in a stout. Finish is gently bitter and dry, a little like dry autumnal leaves. A bit cocoaey in the late finish. Good stout. With a better palate, this would be really damn good, at least 3.5, as the fullness would let me latch onto the flavours more too.

Bottled, 500ml from Wyevale Garden Centre, Bicester, Oxon. Dark brown with volcanic fizzed tan head that was ultimately short lived. After the trauma of opening this ended just a sweet, fruity, malty beer, quite tired and flat despite the short BBF date. Not great.

Bottle. Dark brown, average and mostly diminishing light brown head. Moderate, malty and sweetish aroma, light caramel, light roasted malt and coffee with faint licorice. Body is light to medium, malty and lightly sweetish - sweetish flavor, light caramel, light roasted malt and coffee/chocolate. Finish is short to average, malty and lightly sweetish, light - some roasted malt and light coffee, faint hoppyness. Watery stout with roastiness. Lacks character and body. Also could be drier. This one is more like small skinny cat.

Idiosynkrasie (4640) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - JAN 9, 2015
500ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with average, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Roasty, minimally chocolately, dark malty aroma, a cautious touch of red berries. Taste is roasty dark malty, watery hints of chocolate, treacle and tar, increasing dark and caramel malty sweetness, almost toffee-like.

Poured deep dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of vanilla, caramel roast malt, fudge, dark fruit and chocolate. Medium body, flavour much as the aroma, a little light. Would like to try an Imperial version of this,

Purchased in the local corner shop. Slightly surprised to find a specialist beer there at all. The bottle proudly says ’Organic Stout’. I don’t know if this had been badly stored, but it came out of the bottle almost completely flat, with hardly any head at all. Black colour and some aromas of roasted malts. Pleasant enough taste with roasted malts, coffee and chocolate flavours. Some bitterness from the hops A little thin and with little complexity. The finish is not as well-rounded as, say, the Fuller’s London Porter, and actually has a slightly harsh edge to it. Not bad, but not great. I would like to try it again with a better sample.
