Vintage Ale 2011: Maris Otter barley was bred by Dr G.D.H. Bell in the mid 1950s to brew traditional cask conditioned ales and has become acknowledged as the finest brewing malt in the world. This characterful pale ale has been brewed using only 2011 vintage organic Maris Otter barley, and English organic First Gold hops.

Bottle at the ChrisO Flags of Many Nations Easter Tasting - London. One from L-Dawg. Pours clear gold with a fine, white cream cap. Rich, dry and lightly toasted malt aroma, with hints of toasted hay. Medium to big sweet flavor with some toasty bread, straw, faint honey and mild, ripe apple. Medium to full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet finish with sugary bread, lightly dry bitter hay and mellow caramel. Not bad but very basic. Still, a decent ESA.

Very small head, quickly disappering. Slightly oily appearance, heavy on the caramel side. Brownish orange color. Fruity on the sour side, apparent alcohol, modest bitterness.

Bottle at Chriso Easter "Flags of many nations" Tasting, 31/03/13 thanks to Leighton - he’s a big Jamie fan ! Clear golden amber with a thin white head that clears edgeward and purveys a fim atop the beer. Nose carries dark malt, light booze, apple pie, sugars, toffee. Taste comprises lightly soured fruit, pear, apple, sugars, dark malts, caramel. Medium bodied with fine carbonation, bitterness in the finish. Not a bad drop - surprised this didn’t put up more of a fight with the average Belgians on show !!!

330 ml bottle. Deep amber colour. No head. Estery and fruity malt aroma. Some warming alcohol noticeable initially. Low carbonation level. Sweet malt flavours. Peppery hops, but not much bitterness. Feels unbalanced, and is not particularly drinkable. Wouldn’t drink again.
