(Bottle 25 cl) A name that promises a lot... Pale golden beer with a decent head. Rather watery body with a creeping, slow bitterness in the palate. 051297

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at 4.9% from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours light gold with a slight white head. Aroma of grassy and herbal hops. Med body. Flavor is lightly bready, and there’s a good dose of noble hop. It is crisp and clean. However, it needs just more grassy hop to put it up there with the top runners. Finishes fairly dry.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Tap at Hop Devil Grill. Very pale straw colour, thin white head. Aroma is quite grassy. Thin bodied with light pale malt and grassy hops. Even a bit of adjunctly character. Hop flavour is okay, grassy and floral. I don’t think I’d revisit this one.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Very pale gold, heavily carbonated to slowly collapsing, dense white head. Grain and a bit of seawater. Weird nose. Dry (pale) malty taste, with a slight sourish edge; no doubt this is just the CO² coming through. Slightly fizzy, quite slick all the same for a pils. Aftertaste is slightly sweetish, even a bit maize-like. Not a bad pils. The brewery is very sympatico, maybe it reflects on the beer somehow?

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Max’s Belgian Fest, called Strubbe Pils: Pours a bright transparent golden with a thin, stringy-lacing white head. Aroma of fresh saaz hops and clean pale malt. Starts with good fullness for the style and nice, fresh noble hops with a clean, smooth finish. A good, true to style and very drinakble pilsner. From the looks of the other ratings, this may not actually be the beer I had.

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
On tap at The Hop Devil Grill’s separate Belgian Room. A decent drinking pilsner with some complexity, better than expected.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap at Sunswick, during Belgian Beer Fest. I’m surprised this beer doesn’t get more love; I found it to be an excellent Pilsner. Poured clear gold with a soft, white head. Nose of crisp malts and light sugar. Flavor was crisp with mild sweetness and pleasant bitters on the tail. Light to medium in body with refreshing carbonation. Everything I would want from a Pils.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pale straw pour with a white head. Sweet grain and corn notes on the nose along with some sweet fruit esters of apple and white grape. A touch of yeast and straw, too. Flavor is a bit watery, but there’s a lot of grain and corn sweetness. Some white grape, light apple, and yeast on the finish. No real hop flavor, maybe just some straw/grass.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Served on draft at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA on 6/27/11. Pours a clear golden color with a medium sized creamy white head. Lots of visible carbonation. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of pale malts and grassy hops. The taste is pretty much the same. Creamy mouthfeel, well balanced. Pretty nice beer.
