Struise-Mikkeller is as we said in the past "Best of two worlds". We delivered an IPA with 130 IBU (Batch I), 150 IBU (Batch II), 163 IBU (Batch III), 216 IBU (Batch IV), but a bitterness hidden the Struise way, counter balanced by maltyness, alcohol and rest sugars.

330ml bottle poured in a chalice. A: Pours a deep amber color. Too hazy to an American IPA. Head is huge and beige, and leasts forever. Incredible retention and tons of lacings left in the glass S: Quite spicy, malty and bready. Again, strong European (Belgian) personality. Definitely not a American Double IPA. It has this bready and yeasty Belgian smell. Also candy, caramel malts, grassy hops and alcohol. Complex and good T: Complex as the nose. Candy, caramel malts, bread, grassy hops. Upfront is very mild sweet, taste is crispy and bitter as it should. End is bitter and grassy. Very well balanced, nevertheless M: Creamy refreshing body. Medium carbonation. Mild sweet upfront. Bitter aftertaste O: Quite interesting beer. At same time that it keeps the characteristics of an American Double IPA, it also have strong characteristics of a Belgian IPA, like the characteristic bready yeasts taste. In the end, a beer with the good Mikkeller-Struise quality. No regret [ BA Review @ 1/28/2012 ]

Hazy. Hoppy with red fruits on nose. Rather weak aroma. Sweet in taste. Malty base, raisiny, caramel, cherries(?) and some sourness. Oily body. Big "wow" on paper, but small disapointment in real.

Color caoba turbio con densa espuma color crema. Aromas de caramelo, herbales y pino. Cuerpo medio-denso, textura maltosa, toque acafetado y amargor final herbal, seco y resinoso. Bien

11.2 oz. bottle. Vintage 2013. SM No. 12. Must be from Batch IV because the label specifies 216 IBU. A murky amber/brown pour with tons of chunky floaties and a smallish tan head. Plums, Port wine, dark cherries, brown sugar, raisin bread, and grapefruits feature in the aroma. Medium-bodied and kinda sticky on the way down. Lots of smooth caramel and toffee upfront taste-wise. Candi sugar, tart cherries, raisins, and plums follow. Some bitter dark chocolate and grapefruits present at the end. Piny. Kinda earthy. A little yeasty. The 9% ABV is nicely hidden.

Penso serimanente che questi pazzi potrebbero fare anche la gazzosa o la spuma, che verrebbe comunque originale. Perchè loro sono originali, come questa imp. IPA. Gran corpo è nonostante va giù che è un piacere...

On tap at Frisco Tap House & Brewery in Columbia, MD. Lightly hazy/nearly clear, rusty orange with a khaki head and excellent lacing. Aroma of passion fruit, toffee, orange peel, grapefruit, lemon drops, pine, mango, raisin bread and caramel. Taste of orange peel, toffee, pine, passion fruit, mango, grapefruit, caramel an more many and tropical fruit. Medium/full body and medium carbonation. A hop bomb, but nothing like a west coast IPA. The intense hops are complex and fruity and nearly matched by an abundance of malt. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: SEP 6, 2014 Cooperation with the much-revered Mikkeller (and label in the Mikkeller house style), in four versions; this rating concerns batch III (163 IBU). Also tasted under the name "Mikkeller". Very stable, regular, cream white head, colour a brownish amber, hazy with a ’fond’ of protein flakes. Excessively hoppy aroma, spicy, grapefruit, tonic water, orange peel, dried leaves, walnuts, cookies, caramel. Fresh citrussy onset, rounded nutty maltiness, rather light mouthfeel in relation to its strength, sodden in hops from beginning to end, aromatic, peppery, citrussy and grapefruit-like, eventually becoming even more bitter, almost to a medicinal level, sticky and very, very long. A treat for hopheads.

Draught @ Wildeman, Amsterdam. Incoming from the Western Front! Hop bomb, huge pucker factor, passion fruit. Not very Belgian, love it!

Tap. Hazy orange with a nice head. Pine, citrus, honey, lemon candy. Medium body. Smooth with slightly sweet bitter finish. Awesome
