Struise Mikkeller -- the product of master brewing and friendship. Celebrate this sense of camaraderie by sharing this bottle with your good friends!
- Joe Tucker, RateBeer.com

Struise-Mikkeller is as we said in the past "Best of two worlds". We delivered an IPA with 130 IBU (Batch I), 150 IBU (Batch II), 163 IBU (Batch III), but a bitterness hidden the Struise way, counter balanced by maltyness, alcohol and rest sugars.

[bottle] Citrusy, sugary aroma, really strong grapefruit. Pours a cloudy dark amber color with an enormous head. Flavors are full of hop character, and nice belgian yeast. Kind of spicy, but still hard to get ahold of that with all the hop bitterness and aroma. Nice and clean. Overall, a really nice version of this generally over-played style.

12oz bottle pours deep brown with off white head. Hop and malt aroma. Sweet malt and caramel with a bit of grapefruit taste.

Cold bottle, poured into tulip. Batch III. Dark red with a big enduring head. Mixed citrus smell. Taste - quite mild, dark fruits, frothy toffee, raisins in the finish with a pretty srong bitterness. The hops really meld with the flavour - more of a Belgian-style IPA than an American IIPA.

Bottle. Poured dark copper with a huge white head and lots of lacing. Aroma is burnt caramel and candy sugar. No hops apparent. Taste is similar, hop profile is totally dead. Guessing this bottle is out of date. Big alcohol heat. Nice palate and carb. This must be huge when fresh. Actually had a surprising amount of things going for it even without the hops. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle 33 cl from erzbierschof.ch. Blood orange beer with huge and pale ochre foam sticky. Tropical aromas, grapefruit and resin, malted sweetness, candi. The taste is caramelized and fruity, citrus XL, grapefruit-orange, candi, spices, pepper and passion fruit. It’s quite bitter but not expected IBU intoxication, with malt-toffy-sugar balance.

Bottle. Pours slightly hazy perfect amber with stable, creamy beige head. Delicious aroma of malt and toffee, bringing childhood memories to me. Pleasant, bitter onset, turning into a more malty and bready body, finishing deliciously dry. My #700. :-)

I just had this beer last night and I was getting sadder and sadder as the bottle was emptying. 330ml in a wide red wine glass. 2012 vintage. So many flavours! So balanced and well-rounded. The amount of sugar may make some walk away, but even at 163 IBU, the bitterness is extremely well balanced with the caramel and tropical fruit aromas. Glad I have 2 more in the cellar!

330ml bottle. Slightly cloudy Dark orangey amber colour with huge, firm, thick, frothy, fully lasting, lacing, off-white head. Caramel malty aroma, piney and resinous hoppy overtones, some pineapple. Taste is really bitter hoppy, caramel malty counterweight, hints of grapefruit and pineapple, some yeast in the finish.

Feel like I’m eating this one. My mouth is so dry. This was a good one to try, but I just dont have much interest in drinking again. It is very hoppy. There are some other flavors but I’m too overwhelmed to really enjoy. I like hops, but too a certain degree. The yeast and sweetness is a nice touch but this would need a lot more to balance nicely. Just is syrupy bitterness.

I’m hoping I’ve got the right beer as there’s no mention of Mikkeller on the label and the IBUs of this bottle are 216, but everything else measures up. Nose is densely bitter with burnt, esthery notes and some citrus coming through. Pours a medium amber with a tan head. Flavour is intensely complex but well-balanced with notes of molasses, peat, grapefruit and cigar smoke. Finish is very dry but very moreish.
