Bottle. A dark brown beer topped by a dense, finger-thick light beige head. Ginger, roasted malts, licorice and some alcohol on the nose. The flavor has a faint touch of ginger, with roasted malts, licorice and some alcohol. Warming, full-bodied and nicely carbonated. Bitter finish with alcohol. Certainly a nice one, well worth a revisit. Tasteful and pleasant. 121005

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 kryon (699) - SWEDEN - MAR 15, 2013
Pours dark dark brown with low off white head
Aromas of violet liqourize, mint chocolate. Very interesting aromas to be frank. Not sure I’ve sensed that combination before.
Looks and feels more like an abt than a belgian strong ale. Tastes of licourise, mint chocolate and hints of caramel malts.
Palate is a wee bit to watery, low to medium bitter, medium sweet.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 snzcujo (274) - RUSSIA - MAR 3, 2013
Tasted from the bottle, on 03/03/2013.
Pours dark-dark brown, with a lovely long-lasting creamy head.
Aroma is full of different candy sugar syrups, a bit floral and spicy, slightly zesty in the end.
Taste is surprisingly totally different! A lot of roasted notes, oats is also here, following by a fruity/citrusy wave (of hops?). After some warming, could feel candy sugar as well.
Aftertaste is warming and just a bit boozy.

330 ml bottle into tulip glass, lot 01/01/2011. Pours cloudy fairly pitch black color with a nice 2 finger fairly dense dark khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big raisin, chocolate, roasted malt, light char, brown sugar, cinnamon, clove, pepper, herbal, earth, and yeast spiciness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity; very unique. Taste of dark chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, light char, raisin, prune, caramel, toast, coffee, brown sugar, pepper, clove, herbal, earth, and yeast spiciness. Lingering notes of chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, light char, raisin, prune, caramel, toast, coffee, brown sugar, clove, pepper, earth, herbal, and yeast spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice flavor balance and complexity; with a nice malt/spiciness balance; and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very good Belgian dark ale. Nicely complex with unique flavor and nice balance; and very smooth to sip on. I enjoyed this quite a bit.
