4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma is fairly spicy but also full of esters. Quite a bit of pepper and clove along with some sweet chocolate notes. Dark fruit with cherry, fig and prune. A hint of nuts.
Pours a dark brown, almost black with a moderately thick dark tan head. Head recedes fairly quickly but stops leaving a film on top and along the edges. Light lacing with medium legs.
Flavor starts with a slight sweetness but then the phenolic notes take over. Anise, pepper, clove and coriander. Moderately strong hop notes but the hops seem to be of a more noble variety than American. Moderate bitterness. Some burnt sugar, toffee and chocolate. Lighter esters in the flavor but still some cherry, fig and prune. Finish is fairly sweet with some alcohol spice to it and a touch of lingering bitterness.
Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium high carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. A little sticky but not too bad.
This is honestly a fairly interesting beer and better than I remember. The Belgian yeast works well with the noble hops and darker malts to make a very spicy beer. Good complex malt character with nice complimenting yeast notes. Sweet but not too overly sweet and the alcohol feels fairly clean.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
33ml bottle purchased in Bruges Belgium. Pours very dark and heavy with tan full head and some chunky sediment. Rich chocolate aroma and very thick consistency. Nice balanced flavors that hides the 10% well. Great tasting beer, would buy again.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A really interesting unique beer almost like and Imperial Stout/Dubbel. Pours a dark burnished brown with a finger of thin dense beige head. The nose has a mild roasted malt, dark chocolate and a hint of smoky espresso with dark dried prunes and raisins. Sweet malty base in the mid palate with fruity flavours. The finish is mildly bitter with toffee and caramel malts. Overall a really well rounded and complex beer that is incredibly tasty.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown beer with ginormous beige, creamy head. Aroma of chocolate, some coffee, roasted malt. Flavour is pretty sweet and malty, with hints of the chocolate and some lactose creaminess. Silky smooth mouthfeel, bit oily texture. Great balance and good drinkable. Alcohol is well hidden. Great beer!

This one is GREAT. It’s fruity and has a nice combination of hop and malt bitterness. Perfectly balanced in taste and aroma. Colour is dark brown / almost black. One of my favourite Struise brews.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. A dark brown beer topped by a dense, finger-thick light beige head. Ginger, roasted malts, licorice and some alcohol on the nose. The flavor has a faint touch of ginger, with roasted malts, licorice and some alcohol. Warming, full-bodied and nicely carbonated. Bitter finish with alcohol. Certainly a nice one, well worth a revisit. Tasteful and pleasant. 121005
