Collaboration brew with Stillwater Artisanal Ales (USA). Crowned last week with a golden Award for Best newcomer in the world 2011.

This Belgian Strong Ale was married to a still young but powerful style, the Black IPA. You’ll discover a smooth chocolate like strong ale together with the high & bitter hop schedule of an IPA, and you get a great result...

330 ml bottle into tulip glass, lot 01/01/2011. Pours cloudy fairly pitch black color with a nice 2 finger fairly dense dark khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big raisin, chocolate, roasted malt, light char, brown sugar, cinnamon, clove, pepper, herbal, earth, and yeast spiciness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity; very unique. Taste of dark chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, light char, raisin, prune, caramel, toast, coffee, brown sugar, pepper, clove, herbal, earth, and yeast spiciness. Lingering notes of chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, light char, raisin, prune, caramel, toast, coffee, brown sugar, clove, pepper, earth, herbal, and yeast spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice flavor balance and complexity; with a nice malt/spiciness balance; and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very good Belgian dark ale. Nicely complex with unique flavor and nice balance; and very smooth to sip on. I enjoyed this quite a bit.

Very nice beer. Pours a near black opaque dark brown color with nice tan head. Aroma is roast, chocolate, leather, earthy malts, and spices. Taste is very much Belgian stout-esque with solid roastyness and a rich creamy mouthfeel. Great beer.

Pours a deep dark umber color witha big four finger eggshell foam that hangs out and sticks like a champ. Aromas are roasted chocolate malts, dark fruits; plum, raisin, fig....little bit of herbalness too licorice, mint, clove. Complex palate... wow roasty toasty malts with earthy spice. Loads and loads of flavors bombard the palate, but still it remains balanced and smooth. Cedar, chocolate, pine very rustic and woodsy. Wow I had this a year ago but it was during a ate night camping session... so glad I found another bottle to revisit !

Sinceramente non mi è dispiaciuta, ma non mi ha appagato del tutto. Al naso frutta e anice, mentre in bocca ancora anice protagonista insieme alla liquirizia.

A black beer with a beautiful, brown and medium head. Aroma is interesting and complex, dark fruits, lots of fresh anise and mints, some roastiness and hint of liquirice and strawberries. Taste is roasted, some liquirice, anise and mints, but they are not so strong as in the aroma, but anyway, they dominates the taste, some yeast and dark fruits in the aftertaste. Medium+ bodied, a fresh to drink despite of strenght. A very interesting, refreshning mints, enjoyable, but not totally balanced.
