May 4, 2009 Bottle via trade. When I first cracked the bottle the nose was sour and vinegary. I thought for sure this bottle had turned. I pushed through and poured the beer. The sourness dissipated and a creamy roasted malt nose came through. The beer poured a flowing deep black brown with a thick toasted brown head. Flavors of smooth roasted malts, molasas, bittersweet chocolate, or coco powder, candied sugar, and licorice. Just a small hint of sourness. Mouth was creamy and full. Very smooth with just a mild amount of carbonation. Excellent beer!

May 3, 2009 Bottle. Pours near black with a big tan head. Roasted malt aroma with molasses and a hint of sweetness. The flavor follows with roasted malt, molasses, coffee, and some light dark fruity sweetness. I liked that the flavor wasn’t overpowering or overly heavy. Slightly too much carbonation detracted a little. Unique and enjoyable nonetheless.

May 2, 2009 11.2oz bottle, served in a snifter. This poured a shiny black with a thick head of lasting tan foam. A thick coat of lace was left around the glass. The aroma was made up of chocolate covered cherries, caramel apples, licorice, moderate roast, Belgian yeast, and a note of alcohol. Pretty vinous. Defeinately doesn’t smell like your run of the mill imperial stout. The flavor had charred malt, bittersweet chocolate, licorice, and burnt caramel. There was also some dark fruit lingering under the heavy roasted notes. A little alcohol warmth. The mouthfeel was full-bodied and velvety smooth. Softly carbonated. Unique, well made, and pretty tasty.

May 2, 2009 On tap at DLD ’09. Pours a pitch black body with a thick, finger-width, chocolate ice-cream brown head that leaves a lot of heavy lacing. Aroma is very nice and complex. Mocha, chocolate, sour prunes, raisin, and apple cider. Surprisingly sour aroma with a nice addition of floral bittering hops. The flavor is fantastic. An interesting and unique blend of silky imperial stout flavors and sour fruits. The Belgian characteristics are clearly evident throughout as well. Very rich and complex. Lots of cocoa and mocha with a very nice assortment of dark fruits, citrus, and melon. Good amount of soft bittering hops, mostly grassy. A very subtle roast as well. A light sour acidic note lingers along with the rest of the rich flavors. Full palate and silky smooth. Really glides over the tongue. Overall, a fantastic one-of-a-kind Imp Stout. Lovely, complex assortment of rich and balanced flavors. Lucky to have come across this beauty at DLD.

Smells of bitter chocolate with roasty husk and smoked toffee tones, light grassyness. Soft carbonation
In the mouth the hopping bitterness is subdued but it is there and lingers on and mixes well with warming alcohol which both sit below the thick and almost chewy malts....then this rum and coke citrus complexity steps builds to the rich wet, complex exiler finish.
I’ve tasted imperials similar to this but I’ve never tasted better.

May 1, 2009 Having this for the second time. Bottle purchased at Sprinkle’s store! Thanks Mike for breaking this out for me. Black body with a medium tan head. Alcohol is up front in the nose with some roasted coffee notes. The mouthfeel is nice, but the carbonation is a bit too high for my liking. The flavor follows the nose with some hints of bitter chocolate.

May 1, 2009 Bottle. Wow, this doesn’t taste like a 13% brew. Dangerous. I could drink six of these. Very smooth and creamy. Well balanced. Not overpowering in the least.

May 1, 2009 Deep dark brown coloured body, with a muddy glow and a large dense, perfectly shaped brown head. Aroma of potent pit fruits, roasted malt, cherries, coffee and a bit of nuts - very nice and potent. Full-bodied; Strong roasted malt taste up front with some cognac, oak, vanilla tucked in with pit fruits, yeast and some odd nuts - nice and complex. Aftertaste shows a lot of sweetness with a touch of alcohol and a lot of well-rounded tastes. Overall, a nice and interesting beer - a lot of carbonation with a lot of flavours. Good to try and surprising for just an odd pickup that I saw while away! I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Sherbrooke Liquors in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on 27-December-2008, sampled at home in Washington on 30-April-2009.
