Commercial Description:
This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. Bottle from Knightly Spirits. This pours out black in color with a big fluffy tan head. Coffee, chocolate, yeast, as well as some dark fruit character, plums and figs, in the aroma. Flavor pretty much follows suit with all the same flavors picked up with the addition of some bitter piney hops. A bit roasty but very slick and smooth drinking, especially for such a big brew. Very little of the 13% alcohol noticed. Excellent beer. A nice evening sipper.

Draft at Gravity Head: Midnight black pour with a foamy beige cap. The aroma is surprisingly subtle and hard to pull from this beer. The beer was served near cellar temp and I couldn’t smell anything at first. Very strange - when the beer came to room temp, it finally displayed some mild coffee, vanilla and cocoa notes, but still soft and not easily discernible. The body is thick and creamy, very enjoyable. Deep notes of cocoa, brownie, vanilla bean, roasted coffee all intermingle with a very light, but perceivable, Belgian yeast strain. Hops are not noticeable and do not make an impact. I haven’t been able to understand the fascination of Impy stouts brewed with Belgian yeast. Everything seems a bit jumbled and misguided. I can’t quite fully enjoy either one separately and together they just don’t fully jive. This was a fine drinker and all, but I wouldn’t seek it out again.

Bottle. Creamy lightbrown excellent mostly lasting head. black colour. Fantastic powerfull complex aroma dominated by vanilla and wood. Powerfull perfect flavor. Very nice balance between hopps chocolate coffee and vanilla/wood. Long wonderfull finish. Very creamy palate. World class beer.

Bottle thanks to MrChopin. Aroma has notes of dark chocolate, dark dried fruits, coffee, raasted malts. Black hue with an average sized frothy tan head that lasted and left sparse lacing. Flavor is sweet with a roasted and subtle tart bitterness. Palate is full bodied and oily soft. Not a bad Impy but I expected more from such a highly regarded brew.

Bottle from Marcus. Very much appreciated. Pours very brown/black with ruby glints and a large dark tan head. Aromas of dark malt, maybe vanilla, and some mild chocolate. Full bodied with creamy carbonation. Flavor is coffee, hint of chocolate, and some fruity/ floral aspects. But it’s a whole lot more complicated than that. It also is like mocha cake. It finishes nicely bitter (not strongly, just nicely) and lightly burnt. Just excellent.

33 cl bottle courtesy of lithy and the Arizona Cardinals - Pours a dark brown color with a rather large two and a half finger thick tan head which took its sweet ass time to settle. Nice lacing. Aroma is doughy malt, esters, and faint chocolate. Flavor is full of dark esters, light chocolate, and lightly roasted malt. I couldn’t detect any coffee though. Finish is nice. No lingering roastiness or bitterness. Medium to full body. A really nice beer. Thanks Justin.

did in a quick side by side with ten fidy, and boubon county, in comparison to those the yeast was a definite note on this beer, and the complex undertones within the body put it just above the others. very good full stout, heavy, yet the yeasty froth of a body lightened it up compared to american imperial stouts,
