COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. Bottle. Pitch black with a creamy light brown head. The aroma is intense and warming, a miasma, with heavy roast malts, caramel, cocoa, strong coffee, plums, licorice. The flavour is sweet and heavy with chocolate of a dark variety, dark and sinister fruits, immoral fruits, satan, and the whole setup has a syrupy texture that is unlike cream. The cream is also present. Really plummy, on the whole. Fuck.

Dark black bliss. Dark viscose head that lingers on. Lovely. Deep body aroma plus flavours. Mocha, cinnamon, bitter herb, caramel, toffee and floral barley roast. Hints of tar and roasted malt even. I’m looking forward allowing these tastes to evolve.. Dig a deep pit and drop 33 bottles inside... then hope to forget for a substantial number of years. Body + aroma + flavour = more body... / A family member once helped an uncle digging house foundations in the 80’s. They realised my uncle bought land where the Germans has their base, after this find... one day they stumbled upon an iron oval construction full of French red wine from the 30’s... approw 3 meters below ground... Most were sour, some were beyond amazing...

An usual black color with a fine big beige head. Rich chocolate aroma with some licorice and coffee. Solid body with a fine balance. Not to sweet. Dangerously well masked alcohol. Really smooth and easy drinkable. My goodness. This beer maybe changes a lot. This sample at this moment was really rich chocolate. Quite one dimensional. But also some licorice and mild coffee.
[Bottle from Kolding Vinhandel in Kolding, Denmark – not easy to understand the BB time. But it is sometime in 2015]

UPDATED: AUG 15, 2014 Already a classic and one of the best-known members of a new generation of Belgian imperial stouts (or ’royal’, as the label says). Very thick and dense, equal, deeply beige head, colour black with practically no transparency. Very powerful perfume of brown sugar, dates, raisins, pear, vanilla, tobacco, smoked meat, whisky, sherry and coffee powder. Taste very deep and thick, candied fruit, sweet in onset, smooth and oily, profoundly malty (chocolate, caramel, hazelnuts), medium to strong carbonation, in the finish a deep, mouth-lining toasted bitterness, very long dry finish with aromatic hops and warming alcohol. Quite demanding, well-balanced and very complex brew.

Dan shared at his house. Small snifters. Pours a jet black with a dark mocha thin head. Some mild lacing involved. The aroma is deep roasted coffee, dark chocolate, currants, prunes, vanilla, slight booze, and marshmallow. The taste is fairly similar with the dark chocolate and coffee hitting first and then the dark fruits coming through at the end. Slightly sweet. Finish is booze and coffee. Full body, mild carbonation. Overall very nicely done.

Bottle @ Café Rose Red, Brugge. Pours cloudy nearly black with airy but very stable tan head. Dark aroma of coffee, caramel malt and liquorice. Sweet flavour of coffee, chocolate, and caramel malt, with notes of roast and touches of liquorice. Lingering, sweetish and slightly roasty aftertaste. Warming alcohol presence. Very nice, indeed.
