This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. Bottle from Belgium via. Michael Noggin. Aged for around 6 years. Black with a thin tan head of foam. It has a warming liquorice and chocolate flavour with oak, vanilla and leather on the warming spicy currant, malty and fruity finish. Superb!

Finally my first Black Albert. Beautiful black beer with a brown head. Aromas of roasted malts, dark fruit (dades, raisins) coffee and a little bit of alcohol. Taste follows the nose, where you first taste the roasted malt it’s followed by the dried fruit and finishes with some coffee and a hoppy grassy end. It’s a very soft imp stout, one of the best balanced imp stouts i have ever tasted, where the taste stays long in your mouth. The smell, taste and the oily texture mak it heavenly. Awesome!

Type: 8-oz. draft Glass: Bottlecraft stout glass From: Botlecraft North Park in North Park (San Diego), Calif. Price: $9.00 Purchased: Feb. 10, 2016 Consumed: Feb. 10, 2016 Misc.: N/A First time going to this place. Only four beers on tap, but all were legit. Picked this one out of the bunch and realized after the face that it was on my “want list” on Beer Advocate. Was already looking forward to it, but realizing that it was one of the better Russian Imperial Stouts in the world had me looking forward to it even more. Poured a dark mahogany, almost black color with 1-to-2 fingers of rocky, tan head when I got it. Average spotty lacing on the sides of the glass. Average-to-above average retention on the top all the way down. (Sight - 3.75) Smelled a huge beautiful punch of smooth alcohol and smooth malts from the get go. Specifically got caramel, toffee, roasted chocolate, maple syrup, hints of dark espresso and Rolos candy. (Smell - 4.50) Taste follows the nose nicely, just a tad too cold when I got it. Toffee, caramel, roasted chocolate, dark cocoa nibs, Rolos candy, maple syrup and roasted coffee malts but not overwhelming. Very smooth for 13 pct. ABV. (Taste - 4.50) Full body. Sticky-to-slick texture. Average carbonation. Long, warming, smooth finish. Got much better as it warmed. (Feel - 5.00) Just an awesome, smooth Russian Imperial Stout. Glad I got to try it, even if it was $9 for eight ounces. (Overall - 4.50) 4.51 100 A+

0.33 l bottle from ’Firma Bier’, 2015 vintage, best before May 2020. Pitch black with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, brown head. Sweetish-malty, moderately roasty and slightly fruity aroma of dark chocolate, nougat, toffee and dark ripe fruits. Sweet-malty, slightly roasty and minimally fruity taste of dark chocolate, cocoa, nougat, toffee and hints of dark ripe fruits, followed by a long, moderately roasty-bitter, slightly alcoholic and warming finish. Full body, syrupy mouthfeel, flat. Delicious brew, rather sweet, dangerously drinkable.

Bottle. Pitch black, espresso, fizzy head, quickly dissipates. Black licorice, candied pecans, chocolate icing, plum fruit esters, dark dry raw chocolate/cocoa. Well attenuated, with a chalky, milk chocolate powder finish. Baked brownies breadiness. A hint of sugary syrup. Very clean overall, a clean hop bitterness (earthy), not acrid. Dangerously drinkable.

330 mL bottle(s) shared by ebone1988. Motherfucker gave me my own bottle! Thanks! The pour is a jet black with a thin dark khaki colored head that falls to a thicker collar, leaving no lace. The aroma is really good. It's not especially layered, but is quite complex. The first shallow hit offers a light fruitiness in front of a sweet chocolate and a beautiful roast. There is a cross between raisins and a sweet licorice. The deeper you inhale, the better it gets. There is a roasty booziness that really defines it, but the dark chocolate leads to a nice bitterness. Also present is a light gingerbread type of hint, adding a little spice here. This smells great. The flavor is, well, not up to snuff compared to the aroma. There is a lot of roast and a light bitterness before the dark fruits take over. There are multiple fruits that poke through. Raisins and plums for sure, and a lighter fruit is also present. There is a little booze that comes through. It's a little disappointing with the aroma that was offered. The mouth feel is a little thin and slightly watery. The carbonation is soft, and not quite as good as it should be. The aftertaste is sweet chocolate and a lightly dark, bitter roast. It's good, for sure, but not as good as it could've been. Well done though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottles shared with koleminer20. Aroma is roasted malt, licorice, some kind of baking spice, like a gingerbread cookie, chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, complex and very nice. Appearance is black, dark brown head, poured like motor oil. Taste is dark fruit, roasted malt, licorice, chocolate, coffee, but not as much happening in the flavor as in the aroma. Mouthfeel is a bit thinner than I wanted, medium to heavy body with light carbonation, roasted malt in the aftertaste. Overall, this is very good despite my true expectations not being met.

This is a very complex RIS. It poured jet black with a brown head that dissipates quickly to the edge of the glass. The smell is chocolate, coffee, raisins, and a little booze at the end. The taste follows suit but there is an element of flavor that lets you know it's Belgian. The feel is thick and chewy the way you'd want for this style. This is an outstanding stout!
