COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. Botella.

Bottle shared with Marc, thanks buddy. Pours an almost opaque black topped by a 3-finger high coarse and creamy chesnut head. Retenteion and lacing properties are both pretty good. The nose is bittersweet chocolate, burnt toast, roasted malts, serious earthy hops and alcohol. The taste is similar, but the bitterness is a bit subtle. Roasted malts are upfront with hints of dark chocolate. Not too sweet. Alcohol is present and gives it a liquorish facet, almost like a digestive spirit. Earthy hops come through very well and pair with the alcohol also very well. Full-bodied with a subtle bitter finish. I enjoyed it. Cheers!

Big black beer. Nice aromas of bitter chocolate, coffee, and smoke/tobacco? Doesn’t seem like 13% alcohol. Big flavor chocolate/espresso with a nice bite.

Bottle bought at Willems en Zoon Grobbendonk. Black as hell with a medium dark beige/brown head.Full body. Nose: coffee notes, caramel, liquor, vanilla, roasted malts... Taste: some coffee notes, butterscotch, vanilla, plum, roasted malts, dried fruits, liquorice. Some alcoholic warmth in the end with a low bitterness.

Bottle. Clear dark reddish brown on the pour to a thick black. Brown head that lasts in a thin ring and laces some. Aromas of roasted malt, dark chocolate, plum, raisin, caramel, light coffee, vanilla and licorice. Flavor is the same, complex, roasty and sweet. Medium bodied, smooth with a slightly dry end.

So rich, and still so easy to drink. Sweet with good balance, very long taste. Perfect for me.

11.2 oz bottle, vintage 2015, purchased at the Craft Beer Cellar - Fort Collins. Deep black appearance with a brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, bitter chocolate, coffee, light candy sugar and a hint of dark fruits. Similar flavor, adding hints of molasses and licorice. Medium to heavy sweetness balanced by a mild to moderate bitterness. Medium to full body, slightly watery, with soft carbonation, a smooth creamy feel and a rich, lingering chocolate finish. The alcohol is hidden pretty well. This is good, but I am just slightly underwhelmed.

Shared 11.2 oz. bottle. Pours almost black with a dark tan head. Aroma of dark fruits, coffee, chocolate, and alcohol. Similar taste. The finish is a bit acidic and sweet and lacks bitterness; it almost has some vinous characteristics to it. It’s good but not great. Had higher hopes for a Top 100 beer.
