This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. Deep black pour, small tan head. Aroma is deep and almost fruity, mostly roasted malt but with a belgian touch. Flavor is pretty sweet and sugary with lots of mild coffee upfront and a caramel sweetness that’s pretty big in the finish. Mouthfeel is thick with a lot of carbonation and a cloying sweet finish. Some smoke comes out afterwards to cut through the sweetness. Hop bitterness is there but does not affect the flavor at all, but the sweetness is a little too much. Overall a pretty good beer.

First approach, I got the feeling of caramel and maybe chocolate. For the apparence, to bad there wasn’t any foam. Maybe it was a "bad" bottle, but it would have been a perfect 5 on 5 with a thick brown foam. On the same time, as it may be also due to the bottle, we hadn’t any gas in the beer. For the taste, it’s an insane (in the good way) imperial stout. You have to take the time to drink this beer.

Pas de mousse. Bière quasi plate. Bonne onctuosité. Goût de chocolat avec une très subtile amertume. On ne sent pas l’alcool (13% quand même )

Surprisingly no head at all. Caramel droplets on the table. Strong roasting without the off flavour. Feels like eating chocolate. Sticky chocolate aftertaste.

Black colour with a medium tan head that quickly diminishes but maintaining a thin layer. Aroma is toasty, dark cofffee, chocolate and red fruits. Flavor is very similar as aroma, with roasted malts notes, traces of red qnd dryed fruits, vanilla, cocoa. On palate is smooth, rounded and very dense. The final is long with notes of dark coffee, caramel, chocolate and light bittery.

Struise Black Albert ’14 vintage Pours a viscous motor oil color, with a very small head, immediately falling to pieces. Reveals thick alcohol legs after swirling, wandering to the edge of the glass, showing the beers immense viscosity. Smells of cinnamon and earth infused dried fruits, together with caramel and molasses. Coffee beans and aridly wood contrast the upcoming sweet alcohol bite, showcasing a convincing balance on the nose. Dried plums, cinnamon and booze build the foundation of this complex smelling beer. Has a low carbonation, featuring a creamy mouthfeel and a medium body, resulting in a varying taste. Cinnamon is weaker on the palate than on the nose, which gets replaced by smoky malts and a huge amount of charred coals. The beers sweetness gets provided by molasses, rock sugar and dried plums, balanced by bitter chocolate and dry coffee, directly blending into sweet, hot booze. Finishes with alcohol and its burning aftermath, coated up by earth, coals and caramel. Very heavy on the booze, once it becomes visible, tamed only by the malts during the very end. Before that, spices and coffee build up a very interesting mixture, which gets lost in most parts, due to the hot burn. The beer creates a different taste then, which still relies heavily on the booze bite, countered by a profound sweetness, but missing its initial, wooden bitterness.

This one opens up as become more warmer. I describe it as perfect balance cause there was not specific detail what jumps off nor in aroma nor in taste, flavor. More dark malts than choco or coffee notes. Was enough sweet to balance the bitterness but wasnt sweet at 13%. Compared with Mikkelller George this wasn’t so thick, at least in my perception. Just good, tasty imp stout with inviting next sip. Medium to light bitterness, full body, light dry finish.

Thanks to Benzai! Pours opaque black with a slight brown head which soon recedes to a brown lacing. Aroma is coffee, roast malts and dried fruits. Taste is dried fruits - red grape and prunes, molasses, hint of coffee, caramel, moderate hop bitterness. Mellow sweetness throughout. Full bodied with an oily mouthfeel.

Bottle, 33cL. @bar Oud Postje, Oostvleteren. Stunning look : black sparkling beer with a small beige oily head ; medium retention. On the top of the beer, the small head turns into an artistic nebula. Toasty and roasty aroma, light fruity, coffee (intense), alcohol well balanced. Medium sweet, medium bitter ; no "sugary" ; a little warming ; cradling like a baby. Full body, oily thick texture, average to soft carbonation, lasting toasty finish, coffee. Overall, WOW! Magnificent ! What an elegance. Great texture and palate. Story goes on a long time after I left this bar.
