Commercial Description:
This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. 330mL bottle: appearance is pitch black with pretty dark brown creamy like slow fading head, aroma of roasted malt some coffee some chocolate and also some sweeter notes and very well balanced, flavor is big in roasted malt and coffee flavors and backed with some chocolate. Nicely rounded stout but was expecting more for 10 dollars a bottle.

Purchased in Denver in March ’09. Lot B/6/BB. Served in a DT tulip at a room temp, which is just over 50° in my basement. Inky black color with a mocha colored, one fingered head. Aroma is dark fruits, some roast, bakers chocolate and malted milk. Full bodied at first, seemingly due to a large amount of carbonation, but the finish is quite balanced. The taste is reminiscent of an exceptional dark chocolate that flashes a fair amount of dark fruit, mocha and malted milk balls. Very tasty. I must admit that I am a huge fan for these Belgian style imperial stouts, they are rich and seemingly full bodied, but easy to drink and far from the sugary mess that makes up so many regular imperial stouts.

[Bottle, Batch 14] Pours dark brown with a nice brown head. Aroma has alcohol, prune, some chocolate and molasses. Taste has a lot of green pepper and is very hot. Deeply roasted malt, chocolate (which really becomes accentuated as it warms), and a good deal of dark fruit character. Good mouthfeel, fairly smooth, and somewhat dry finish that is long. Overly hot and although it was by no means bad, it was bit of a letdown. I have another bottle to try, so hopefully the next one is better.

Creamy smell. Small aromas of bread and vanilla and chocklat. Leaves a bit of a try aftertaste

My brother picked this one up for me at Phillipe’s in Lafayette. Great find. Pours dark brown to black with a dark tan head. The head stays around throughout the entire drinking process. Aroma is strong on the dark fruits along with some coffee and chocolate as the beer warms. Very complex. The flavor is heavy on the roasted malt, almost burnt in flavor. You also get some more dark fruit and coffee and the beer finishes with some alcohol and sweetness. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Pours like like expensive balsamic vinegar, meaning it pours like syrup. Has a nice creamy caramel head. Use the recommended snifter to drink. Fruit/wine like after flavour. Moderately malty, slightly sweet and refreshing. The darkest beer I’ve ever seen. Beautiful.

Bottle. Damn, this is quite the night. Roasted coffee aromas, but not in the american or mikkeller way, a sweeter and meatier coffee. I also get grapes and alcohol here. Malty taste, quite sweet with a yeasty finish. Nice mouthfeel and overall very good beer.

33cl bottle. I have been wanting to try this for many years. The DC Blizzard of 2009 seemed like just the right night. Pours a slightly oily, slightly viscous, completely opaque black with a creamy, frothy, lacing tan head. Aroma is BIG, even from a foot away: wood, liquor, coffee, brown sugar, candy, burnt toast, light smoke, chocolate, freshly baked cookies, wet earth, tobacco. Flavor has lots of toasted grains and freshly toasted bread, coffee grounds, wood pulp, some very strong sweetness, milk chocolate, molasses, sticky fruits, mocha, vanilla, booze. Finish is thick, almost like a milk stout, with some alcohol heat down the throat. I couldn’t really find the hops that other elite Imperial Stouts have. Still, there’s something very European about this stout.
