COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. Draught at Ebenezer’s Pub in Lovell, Maine. Incredibly dark, opaque, with a moderate foamy brown head. The beer coats the glass with some deep, dark legs and leaves a touch of residue behind. Full and rich aroma with a good chocolate presence which was offset by dark fruits, floral hoppiness, light roastiness and coffee, and just a touch of alcohol. Flavor is very complex and it all melded together wonderfully. The front end starts out with some serious chocolate, followed by some lighter roasted notes that give way to the very green, yet not very bitter, hops. The finish has some slight bitterness that was offset by some coffee. The body was full and very rich. It drank wonderfully though, and you would only have an inkling that this beer is as strong as it is. Decadent stuff. Thoroughlly enjoyable on all fronts. A big thank you to Chris and Jen at Ebenezer’s for giving me the chance to have such an awesome treat

The black damnation is ways better! Black beer, good aroma, but taste is alchoolic and a bit flat, not so complex as thought. Just okay!

Taste is fruity yet dry roasted, dark chocolate, raisins, and a sense of vanilla towards the finish. Lovely mocca and cocoa aftertaste, rich body, great balance here. An excellent beer!

29/11 2012 bottle.

Look: Very dark, syrupy pour with average sized, very thick, solid, dark mocha head. Slow, consistent and very pretty retention, mostly diminishes, the thin layer still leaves fair amount of fine lacing. Colour is dark, dark brown.

Smell: Intense burst out of the bottle. Raisins, dry plums with medium fat sweetness, mostly milk chocolate, burned caramel and roast. Touch of sour (dark fruit notes) and a very light alcohol feel in the nose - combined they break the fatness. Fat, rich but in good harmony.

Taste: Surprisingly pleasant, fruity (dry fruits - raisins, dry apricots) start. Smooth, medium sweetness develops into a rich, strong medium-heavy but still smooth sweet middle, mostly chocolate driven with strong, fat caramel. Light sour still present, not so dark fruity, more notes come from different dry fruits - sour dry cranberries come to mind. Sourness with a very light, subtle alcohol spike refreshes the whole thing. The end is medium-heavy mostly coffee, roast bitterness with a solid light hop character (noble). The after-taste is mostly roast with some very light noble hop and light chocolate sweetness.

Mouthfeel: Full, heavy body, very creamy, smooth. Light alcohol to detect, it is very well incorporated, breaks the solid, fat sweetness.

Overall: One of the best in the style for me. If you can get your hand on it, do so. Rich, smooth, fat and fun, all that it wants to be and more.
