3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 jumpjet2k (314) - Houston, Texas, USA - JUN 17, 201133cl bottle. Deep murky black in the snifter with a creamy medium-tan head. A lot of body, though not a whole ton of lacing. Aroma is somewhere between sweet, roasty, and acidic... Definite honey/plum tones, freshly roasted coffee (like beans that are fresh out of the roaster not ready for drinking yet - they need to sit a little while), and a pointed acidic note not unlike that of lambics and other spontaneously fermented ales I’ve had. The brewer’s description seems to describe a lot of malty/chocolaty flavors in this one, but they’re far from the dominant flavor component. Sweetness dominates overall, more of the sugar/fruity variety, and there’s not much of the depth you can find in malt-derived sweetness, surprisingly. Some roasty bitterness closes off the flavor profile. Carbonation is strong and a little too sharp for my taste - and for the style. Overall it’s a good beer, definitely interesting and worth trying. However, I wouldn’t say it’s anywhere near the finest example of a Belgian Imperial Stout (BIS?). I feel it’s a little unbalanced and shaky and that a little more finesse and polish could make this into a very nice beer. As it is, it’s a tasty curiosity.

Bottled 05/05/13. A black beer with a wisp of grey head. I’ve had this nearly five years and it’s aged nicely but could probably go longer. Very boozy and very oily. Soy notes. Strong soy and alcohol in the aroma. Slick and very bitter in the mouth. Lots of tarmac. The finish goes on forever but the flavours are a bit too boozy and extreme to be a World beater.

Bottle. Pours very dark with a good amount of carbonation. Flavor is some bakers chocolate, mocha and nice spices. This is a really good beer, I cannot believe it is 13% abv.

Bottle shared by John on Sunday morning after TAP-NY back in his hotel room with Matt, Justin, Amerci, and a pantsless Ed. Pours a deep black with a thin to medium sized tan head. Big chewy roast and lots of chocolate and cocoa. Plum, tastes of chewy fudgy brownies. Super smooth, bitter cocoa. Spicy cocoa lingers on the gums.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours pitch black with a small tan head and a thick sweet aroma with notes of syrup, overripe fruits, espresso, roasted malts and toffee. The taste is sweet without being oversweet and the alcohol is very well hidden, considering the high amount it contains. There’s hints of licorice, ripe cherries, moccha, dark malts, cacao, candy sugar and some hops hidden somewhere in the end. A very nice beer, I really like it!
