COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. 33cl bottle. Deep murky black in the snifter with a creamy medium-tan head. A lot of body, though not a whole ton of lacing. Aroma is somewhere between sweet, roasty, and acidic... Definite honey/plum tones, freshly roasted coffee (like beans that are fresh out of the roaster not ready for drinking yet - they need to sit a little while), and a pointed acidic note not unlike that of lambics and other spontaneously fermented ales I’ve had. The brewer’s description seems to describe a lot of malty/chocolaty flavors in this one, but they’re far from the dominant flavor component. Sweetness dominates overall, more of the sugar/fruity variety, and there’s not much of the depth you can find in malt-derived sweetness, surprisingly. Some roasty bitterness closes off the flavor profile. Carbonation is strong and a little too sharp for my taste - and for the style. Overall it’s a good beer, definitely interesting and worth trying. However, I wouldn’t say it’s anywhere near the finest example of a Belgian Imperial Stout (BIS?). I feel it’s a little unbalanced and shaky and that a little more finesse and polish could make this into a very nice beer. As it is, it’s a tasty curiosity.

A very unique stout. Silky black pour with cocoa head. Chocolate and coffee are in the nose and flavor profile along with some interesting fruitiness (dark fruits). Belgian yeast is evident. Good stuff.

In bottle from Brussels; this one was very, very thick and syrupy. Aroma was of oak and smoke, with some sweetness and roast. Flavor was almost too much .. very thick, crazy tongue feel and flavours. This was a good beer, though one I would not be able to drink quite often

Black Albert has a thin, tan head, an extremely dark-brown (essentially black), opaque appearance, with brown highlights at the edges, under strong, direct light, and minor lacing left behind. The aroma is of super-sweet, dark-roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, molasses, fruit cake, and nougat. Taste is of all those elements, plus high bitterness, astringency, black cherries, licorice, raisins, and other things indescribable. Mouthfeel is thick, oily, and syrupy, and Black Albert finishes semi-wet, strong, rich, and surprisingly drinkable. RJT

The taste of this beer is almost too big. It reminds me of Laphroig whisky- the flavor is so big and distinctive that you don’t want to drink it all of the time.

Thick, black. Creamy tan head. Aroma has prunes, licorice, coffe. Flavour is similar plus dark fruit with perfectly balanced bitterness and espresso finish. Not as sweet and cloying as you would perhaps expect from the aroma. Alcohol perfectly controlled. Very, very nice.

Very dark brown. Small brown head. Aroma of alcohol, nail varnish, juniper and pine. Too heavy aroma to be only inviting. Fine and complex taste. Juniper, pine, roasted barley. Fine mouthfeel, with no carbonation.

Semplicemente...un capolavoro di birra! Complessissima, da meditazione. Colore nerissimo.
