This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. 33cl bottle. Deep murky black in the snifter with a creamy medium-tan head. A lot of body, though not a whole ton of lacing. Aroma is somewhere between sweet, roasty, and acidic... Definite honey/plum tones, freshly roasted coffee (like beans that are fresh out of the roaster not ready for drinking yet - they need to sit a little while), and a pointed acidic note not unlike that of lambics and other spontaneously fermented ales I’ve had. The brewer’s deScription seems to describe a lot of malty/chocolaty flavors in this one, but they’re far from the dominant flavor component. Sweetness dominates overall, more of the sugar/fruity variety, and there’s not much of the depth you can find in malt-derived sweetness, surprisingly. Some roasty bitterness closes off the flavor profile. Carbonation is strong and a little too sharp for my taste - and for the style. Overall it’s a good beer, definitely interesting and worth trying. However, I wouldn’t say it’s anywhere near the finest example of a Belgian Imperial Stout (BIS?). I feel it’s a little unbalanced and shaky and that a little more finesse and polish could make this into a very nice beer. As it is, it’s a tasty curiosity.

Lovely. Fruit cake, treacle, caramelised brown sugar, sweet roasted malts, chocolate, coffee. Heavy and sweet, yet very drinkable. Hides the 13% well. Delicious beer.

Dark fruit, cocoa, coffee smell, classic dark color with a brown head the malty, bitterness is perfectly matched, on the swallow it is sweet chocolate, then the bitter coffee and hops come in. Complex as hell, one of the best stouts out there!!!!

F: dark brown creamy, quite long lasting. C: dark brown to black, non-transparent. A: malty, vanilla, black chocolate, coffee, candy, dark fruits, floral hops, hint of yeast. T: chocolate, coffee/mocha, caramel, dry fruits like plums, cherries, dry coffee bitterness on the palate, fruit cake, molasses, full body, low carbonation, hint of woody/earthy tones, oily mouthfeel, yes great imperial stout, worth to try in long winter evenings.

330ml bottle at home shared with gf. Vintage 2015. BB 05/2020. black color, dark coffee-colored head. pours quite oily. smells of coffee, light charcoal but with a sweet twist, earthy, light glue note, bitter chocolate. lovely smell. full body, soft carbonation, oily / quite creamy mouthfeel. tastes of coffee, a bit lactic / creamy, bitter chocolate, some wood, some dried fruits, earthy notes, light sourish, a bit glue-like (probably from the alcohol), nice roast notes, also some banana and resins. finishes with roast, alcohol, earthy and light notes of charcoal. lovely stuff, surprisingly drinkable for the freshness (especially compared to other imp stouts).

Texture liquoreuse. Trouvée à Roby - Menin.

330 ml bottle 2015 vintage from Etre Gourmet.
Pitch black body, with a big, dense, creamy, coffee-colored head.
Aroma of dark chocolate, espresso, cocoa, caramel, some vanilla, dark fruits, wood, slight tobacco.
Delicious taste of espresso, cocoa powder, dark chocolate, tobacco, some liquorice, dark and dried fruits, citric hops in the background.
Medium, creamy mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation.
Finishes smooth, quite dry, roasty, a bit bitter, with coffee, cocoa, tobacco, some liquorice, some fruit notes and a subtle alcohol warmth.

Very tasty. Drinks suprisingly easy for the ABV, which is almost completely hidden. Really smooth and complex, with a wonderful balance between roasty, sweet and dry, even with a moderate hop presence. Overall still not among my favourite Imperial Stouts, but my favourite Struise beer so far.

Gorgeous dense aroma, full of chocolate, chocolate liqueur, dehydrated plums and cherry notes and a scuff of alcohol in the end. Smells beautiful. It’s pitch black beer, with dark brown nice head which drops quite quickly. Full, almost thick body, spill around your palate and leaves a massive punch of dehydrated fruits in chocolate. It’s not bitter very much but it ain’t very sweet as well. You can feel the touch of alcohol, but it’s very pleasant. It warms your stomach too a bit. It appears for me to be a bit over carbonated, which makes it more runny than I prefer. In overall it’s just a huge and awesome beer!
