duff (5404), Sydney, Australia, Surrey, England Mar 9, 2008 Draught@Erasmus. Pretty special stuff, and very close to a five for me. Its very apparent from the deep black colour and tan head, that this is a big beer. Aroma shows lots of chocolate and mocha notes as well as licorice and some notes of dark fruits, but ts is more on the roasty side. palate is quite big, yet i think they have manage to balance out the 13% alcohol very well. For such a strong beer, the palate is amazingly subtle. Lots of roasted malt characters, yet not as thick and in your face as other imperial stouts, this shows more ellegance and subtlety, yet remaining, full bodied, warming and packed full of flavour, as you would expect any good Imperial stout to be. Nice dose of hoppyness in the finish, gives it an extra something, and some slight notes of piney grapefruit can be tasted underneath the dominant roasted malt notes. Something really special has been made here. Now, if only i could get this in London.........

This was a very tasty imperial stout that was not trying to be too much. Alcohol extremely well hidden, but I was also kind of tipsy at this point so I may need to re-rate this since I didn’t take any notes. What can I say? I enjoyed this one. Thanks Todd! Magic_dave6 (3533), London, England Jul 22, 2008 Bottle at the RBESG08 Grand tasting. Alround rating: I know this is going to upset urbain since he was upset already about the tjessus reserva. Big roasty character, inky bitterness, coffee and some grassy herbal hop character. Really bitter and pritty hard to drink. Grovlam (2915), Copenhagen, Denmark Jul 21, 2008 Bottle. Thick thick light brownish creamy everlasting head. Quite black colored. Excellent lacework. Complex and very filling aroma of burned malt, coffee, chocolate, liquorish, ash, mild spice, wood and vanilla notes. Over the palate came also dried fruit, mild yeasty and vinous notes. Very full bodied with an average carbonation and thick light dry texture. Flavor was heavy bitter with well balanced counter sweetness. Lingering burned malty and hoppy finish. MrChopin (116), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 21, 2008 Updated: Jul 25, 2008Pours black with moderate beige head. Nose of chocolate, berries, licorice, alcohol, and a subtle, refreshing pine-like hop. Flavor is huge chocolate with roast in the aftertaste. The hops really hit in the finish and the beer flirts with several other styles. The palate is incredibly smooth, and though not as assertive as I like from an Imperial, it goes well with the nature of the beer. Clean and refined, this is unlike any Imperial Stout I’ve had, kind of like the upscale Belgian version. In retrospect, I really liked this. ucusty (849), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Jul 21, 2008 Tasted at the Carolina Crew gathering, Greenville - thanks to Todd for sharing this. Does it live up to all the hype? Maybe after a year or two of aging. Dark pour, tan head and nice lace. on the nose. Very hoppy flavor with roasted chocolate malts.
