Bottle, 06/18/2013. Pours thick black with a massive, rocky mocha tan head, sticky lacing left behind as it slowly dies down. Aroma is rich dark chocolate and coffee, thick roast malts, blackberries coming through more and more as the beer warms, moderately sweet and jammy, but not considerably sweeter than Black Albert, smooth chocolaty wood finish. Taste is sweet dark chocolate and coffee, light berry and port notes offset by thick cacao, roast bitterness, licorice. Full, thick body, typical for the series, everything well balanced, the berries are not too sweet here. Wonderful.

Draught at Bryggens Ølbar. Pitch black coloured with a small beige head. Roasted aroma of licorice with notes of roasted bread and dark chocolate. Roasted flavour of licorice and dried fruits with notes of blackberries (without any tartness from the berries). Sweet and roasted finish.

Sample at ’het Schooltje’ Oostvleteren. I always imagine that the quality of the beer deteriorates a little because it’s kept for a longer time in the ’tap trailer’. Though amazing idea! Appearance: black beer, little to no head. Nose: quite a heavy nose, lots of wood and coffee, little fruit maybe. Taste: wood and caramel. Molasses, lots of the regular Black Albert noticeable in it again.

Tap at Het Oude Schooltje, Oostvleteren - 23/03/13. Mid black with a big old dirty coffee head that retains well - this looks the bollocks! Nose is rich roast malt, dark chocolate, molasses, hint of booze, light blackberries, touch woody. Taste comprises roast malt, molasses, dark sugars, light berry fruit intertwined with dark chocolate, dark treacle toffee, dark dark dark and delicious! Full bodied, fine carbonation, sweet in the execution. Excellent imperial stout.

# 60 Struise. 33 cl. draft @ ‘t Antwaerps bierhuiske. Thx for the tip nbutler11 – been wanting to try this one. Pours black with a huge, very creamy mocha head towering over the glass. Nose is incredible, real blackberries, not additives or fake or anything but real pure of blackberries, like smelling the fruit itself with some mocha, chocolate, sweetish jam and some booze. Smell beats taste here, taste is clearly different and influenced by the berries but less defined taste of the actual berries, bit boozy, chocolate fudge with some blackberry jam, thick malts and caramel, sweet, boozy, very thick coffee, liquorice,… Very thick body – lovely although I preferred the whisky BA version honestly. Still doesn’t top my fond memories of the base beer which doesn’t make this a great beer in it own right, a bit too harsh almost for me. Is this a future reverse society beer, one of their many recent one-off or is this aging for a future release I wonder?
