Towering brown head; jet-black beer with beautiful lace. Indeed, berries, but I’d guess blue- or billberries - put on coffee and dissolved black chocolate. Sweet-bitterish roasted, alcohol, flavourexplosions. Pure coffee with black chocolate (or vice-versa, I suppose). Very well-balanced. Coffeesweets, lactose. Extremely well-bodied, viscous and alcoholheat. Superb Black Damnation, one of the best. Difficult to describe because of its surprising balance. Many thanks to Klaas D and the Gentse Bierverening, the perfect conclusion for a great festival!

On tap at Mikkeller Bar SF. Pours black with a persistent cocoa head. Aroma has notes of tart berries, berry seeds, mousse, and paint. Tastes like the frosting they use in between layers of a raspberry chocolate cake. needs more heft on the back end. Comes out very thin on the palate.

At Mikkeller grand opening in SF. A- thick black pour with a 1/4 finger medium tan heady that quickly dissipates. S- notes of coffee, toffee, roasted chocolate malts and black berry. Musty oak from the barrels, sweet port, tannins and Earthy as well. Some lighter hop notes in the back. M- lighter than expected with an initially smooth body and mild, creamy palate. Carbonation is refined. T- Relatively mellow with roasted malts, oak, oats, black berry, licorice, molasses, resin and a subdued port. The ending is an odd astringent bitter and hop, with fizzy mineral water and berry notes. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Consumed at home in the company of Loz, Craig, Stella & Kids plus Jackie & Simon 02.08.13 Pours black as yer ’at with tan head. Very thick and full in the mouth, sticky black treackle and molasses, with some bonfire toffee, velvety and smooth. Very easy drinking, like it but clearly not as much as Craig. A7 A5 T8 P4 Ov15 3.9

Draft at Churchkey. Extremely black color, dark brown head. Aroma of fruity coffee, like a brightly roasted Ethiopian coffee bean. Taste is smooth, with a nice combination of fruitiness and roastiness. Not as complex as others in the series, but still tasty.

Bottle @ Cervezorama. Black colour with a beige/tan head with good lasting and nice lacework. Aroma is strong coffee, black chocolate, roasty, red fruits notes. Flavor is complex and fruity dominated by red fruit, raisins and ripe plums, roasted and toasted malts, blackberries and berries are present, black coffee and licorice. The final is strong coffee with a very good balanced with the alcohol.

Make Black albert worse why don’t you. This one has a touch more medicinal quality and it feels like its only 7% vs 13.

Draft at Churchkey. Stunning rich black pour with a light brown head. Nose and flavor bring stunning, resounding blackberry character up front, fading to the classic smooth roast of Black Albert. Espresso, chocolate ganache, heavy cream, and bits of vinous character from the port barrels that slightly resemble those quad-like batches of the base beer as opposed to those more roasty batches. The fruit of both the adjunct and the barrel mixes and integrates seamlessly and stunningly with the base beer. One of my first thoughts was that this beer really brought the hot mess that was Bramble Rye into perspective (though a still rather enjoyable hot mess). This is well made, nuanced, and delightful to drink. Gorgeous as always from Urbain and Co.
