2014.08.20 - Struise Damnation I Black Berry Albert - 750ml bottle in goblet glass. Vintage 2012.
Aroma: You get more of the roasted barley in the aroma than the fruit. Taste is a bit opposite.
Appearance: Pours dark, maybe around 40 on SRM scale. Not black black but very very deep brown. Short lived ruby/tan head/carbonation.
Taste: Berry. Obvious but not overpowering. Good balance. You get very little of the roasted barley, or it's in very good balance with the berries. Virtually no trace of the 13% abv. Nice.
Palate/Mouthfeel: It's a bit creamy. But not overly heavy.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
75cl bottle shared in a Struise glass. Pours (glugs) a nice black colour with a generous (very) dark beige head which lasts well throughout the drink. Aroma is rich malts and dark fruits. Taste is less rich than Black Albert and less complex than Coffee Club but has a style all of its own. A lot fruitier than its other "Damnation Counterparts" that I have tried. Very much an Imperial (or Royal as Stuise label it) stout with a huge mouthfeel (as you would expect); the blackberries are not easily identifiable however, the lighter, fruitier quality imparted is clearly reflected in the end product. Gives the impression of being easier to drink than other Damnations (somewhat unexpectedly compared to VIII) which is not to its discredit. Unmistakably Struise in its style and execution and an unmissable edition of the Black Damnation series. Cannot wait for the next instalment...

Ticked this at a fest a while back, but I was too far gone to give it a proper rate. Taster at Aces and Ales. Pours deep dark brown with haldly any medium brown head. Aroma is dark chocolate and blackberry, a touch of strawberrry too. This is a nice dark, chocolatey base with a bit of coffee and a hint of fruit - raspberry, blackberry, dark cherry. Really nice and smooth, hides the abv well.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Light brown foam rests on the blackness. Berry aromas meld with chocolate and coffee. Dry roasted malts have a touch of fruit tartness. Light carbonation but full mouthful. Finish is dry with hints of berry and birthday cake. Yay!

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Vintage 2012, 0.75 L bottle. A black beer with a small but beautiful and brown head. The nose is great, fresh and intensive. Liquirice, fresh strawberries and raspberries, some black coffee and salt liquirice, touch of vanilla and hint of strenght of alcohol. Taste has strong liquirice, mild roastiness, great strawberries, some herbs, enough of biterness even it’s not taste, aftertaste is warming. Full bodied, low carbonation, pleasant and smooth to drink. The great beer, smooth and intensive with fresh berries.

UPDATED: AUG 7, 2014 75cl bottle transported 8500km from Bavikhove city to Thailand and consumed at a swimming pool looking out at the sea on Koh Samui (enough carrying around! ffs). Ofcourse this added to the dramA-roma people... Why not? A narrative created by the taster is as equal as the story invented by the brewer, no?
This is a gem beer that never disappoints. It pours tar black with a small foamhead. Sweet berry scent and bold roasty taste combined, this BBA is full bodied and has a beautiful lacing. Taste : malty fruits, slight hints of fruits, berries, framboise and slight soury aftertaste intertwined with the dark stark imperial stout body. Yum!
