COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Black Damnation series is a dark twist of Urban’s mind. His idea is to realize a dozen beers with the use of Black Albert, and over a period of two years, that are as black as hell, filthy rich in the nose and with a massive taste.

Black Damnation II is yet another blend with the use of Hel & Verdoemenis from Brouwerij De Molen. This time a level more complex than BD I. 50% of Black Albert was used that matured for a while on whole coffee beans out of a craft Columbian coffee plantation. 25% of H&V was used that aged for 6 months on JD barrels at Struise. Another 25% of Cuvée Delphine was used.

Beware: labels are the same, taste however isn’t. Some bottles are recognizable because of he handwritten 2 on them.

Bottles from Struise Shop. Blacker than a goths wardrobe.with a pleasingly lasting muddyish tan head. Lookin’ good. Oh wow, just about the best smelling roasted coffee aroma you could hope for. Sniff after bloody sniff, just awesome. A clear 10. Some bourbon and vanilla notes lurked in the shadows also. Mouthfeel was bob on, fullish, smooth and velvety with gentle carbonation. The nose gave a fair indication of what was to follow, and once again there was a load of roasted coffee, plus chocolate and barrel notes. Plenty of complexity in there. Drinkability is just through the roof considering the ABV. All of the Black damnation series have been exemplary, but I think this could just be my favourite. This beer truly is da bomb.

Draft, Max’s Belgian Fest 2011. Medium tan head that leaves nice lacing atop black body with brown edge. Aroma is moderately sweet, coffee, some bittersweet chocolate. Taste is moderately sweet, coffee, some bittersweet chocolate, alcohol. Sticky medium-full body, low carbonation.

On tap at the local option. Pour is dark brown/black with a tan head. The earthy note on this brew is nearly off putting. Cocoa and toasty coffee is certainly present here. But wow... the earthy nose dominates. There is some dark fruits and brown sugars as well. A note of alcohol is present as well. Quite interesting, but it doesn’t quite work for me, really.

Bottle [330ml] shared with HogTownHarry, jerc & mabel -- c/o j&m. Pours black with a massive long-lasting fluffy tan head. Aroma has coffee galore, mocha really, along with leafy hops and roasted malt. Nice, big mocha flavour, malty and quite bitter along with some oaky and earthy notes. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Lovely, lovely stuff -- I love it!

Draft at Max’s. Definitely the best of the Struisse black damnation beers. Thick tan head sits on a black pour. Very sweet coffee aroma with a hint of chocolate. Strong, slightly sweet coffee flavor. Hints of chocolate with a bitter finish. Reminiscent of Founder’s Breakfast Stout.

A coffee bean flavour dominates this beer, with traces of whisky and chocolate. Got a little too one-dimensional to be a great impy. Not a trace of those 12 % though.

Flavor is heavy malt (caramel, coffee, toffee, roasted, dark fruit), light hops (floral), and average esters (fruity) with notes of wood, alcohol, licorice, and prune. Full body, high warmth, medium carbonation and creaminess with a sweet texture yet dry finish.

PotjeBier (1781) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - FEB 18, 2011
Bottle bought last Summer in Veurne. Upon opening strong aroma’s of mocha/coffee & heavy roast. Pours pitch black with an uneven beige (almost brown) head. Aroma’s of heavy roast, wood, peat, fruit, coffee/mocha. Flavor is sweet, roasted, a bit acidic. Alcoholfeel is not too strong but it does warm the throat. Full bodied, almost syruppy. Long finish with lots of coffee, roast, peat and bitterness. Delicious.

Sweet mocha nose, lots of roasted coffee. Tate is fairly sweet, lots of coffee, lots of chocolate, some dark fruits. Solid.

Bottle from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen. The pour is potent like hell. Fluffy dark brown head that stays forever. The body is black black black. Good looking. The nose is most of all bitter roasted with hints of chocolate and not much but a little coffee. the taste is rich and actually a bit fruity with the hard rosted flavours a little behind at first but later totaly in front hand in hand with alcohol. Strange off flavour that I can’t define. Agressive and masculin beer. Nice smooth mouthfeel.
