COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Black Damnation series is a dark twist of Urban’s mind. His idea is to realize a dozen beers with the use of Black Albert, and over a period of two years, that are as black as hell, filthy rich in the nose and with a massive taste.

Black Damnation II is yet another blend with the use of Hel & Verdoemenis from Brouwerij De Molen. This time a level more complex than BD I. 50% of Black Albert was used that matured for a while on whole coffee beans out of a craft Columbian coffee plantation. 25% of H&V was used that aged for 6 months on JD barrels at Struise. Another 25% of Cuvée Delphine was used.

Beware: labels are the same, taste however isn’t. Some bottles are recognizable because of he handwritten 2 on them.

Smells like chocolate and coffee resin at the bottom of an ashtray...in a good smokey way! Pours a viscous dirty motor oil blackness with a slight tan head. Smokey roasted coffee bitterness followed by intense chocolate with woody, hoppy notes. Very complex and tasty!

750ml bottle shared in a snifter. Pours a black oily liquid with a thin brown head. Aroma is fairly un-complex (particularly given the processes required to produce it). Taste much the same burnt malt, bitterness little hint of barrel aging and certainly no mocha. This could well have been an infected bottle (2012). White mould occupying the neck of the bottle and floating in the beer. Sadly, this is an all too common occurrence with the Black Damnation beers. Fortunately, previous examples (Coffee Club and Nuptiale A2) have proved to taste excellent so whether the less than spectacular taste is down to the (possible) infection remains to be seen. I have a further bottle with no mould that I will update this review with when I have tried that one. Disappointed. Certainly not worth the price.

Aroma of roasted malt, strong coffee, mocha, dark chocolate, wild yeast. Flavour is moderately sweet and a little tart, with a coffee bitter finish. Deceptively drinkable for a 13%. Thick and full body. Delicious Imperial Coffee Stout.

330ml bottle served in a snifter. A: Pours an absolutely oily black color forming a big bubbled and creamy beige head. Good retention but only few lacings left in the glass S: Sweet and roastd malts, mainly, with special touch of wood, dark chocolate and coffee. A bit fruity and a little bit spicy too. Some earthy yeasts. Damn good in the nose T: Just perfect. Slightly sweet upfront. Strong taste of roasted malts, dark chocolate, and coffee. Very woody. A bit spicy. Great bitterness. Excellent bittersweet balance M: Heavy creamy and molasses perfect body. Medium to low carbonation. Bittersweet roasted and coffee aftertaste O: Perfect drinkability. Perfect beer. The best of the three BD I’ve had so far [ BA Review @ 1/21/2013 ]
