3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from a sexy 330ml bottle. Woody, finger nail polish, cocoa, muddy, chocolate, roast. This is a mess. Meh. I enjoy the big flavors, but the other flavors get in the way. Not a fan.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
330 mL bottle tasted alongside the first four in the series, served in a snifter. Pours black with a small tan head that fades to a thin remnant and leaves a small amount of fine lace. On the nose, there are big notes of molasses and Islay malt, along with oak, roasted malt, chocolate and a touch of earth. The flavour is moderately sweet throughout with a light-moderate bitterness for balance. In addition to the notes from the nose, the body develops the Islay malts quite nicely, showing off the peat. It closes with a long, lingering malty, whiskey finish. On the palate, it is full in body with a creamy texture and very soft carbonation. Overall, this is a truly amazing imperial stout, definitely the best of the early part of the series.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours dark with low latte brown head
Loverly aromas of dark fruits, hints of dark chocolate, coffee beans, dark malts
Wow! Great mouth feel - perfectly balanced between sweetness, bitterness and bodyness. A lot of coffee and dark chocolates. Bitterness from the dark malts. This is an extremely good imperial stout!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pitch black, quite a dark brown head.
Aroma: dark fruit, brown sugar, yeast, light butter.
Taste: licorice, cocoa, coffee, brown sugar, light peaty, creamy chocolate.
Would have like to get a more pronounced Caol Ila influence in this beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: AUG 26, 2013 A wonderfully rich stout which coats the entire palate. The islay component was surprisingly subdued - the aroma just had a faint peaty aspect, and in the taste it was completely absent for me. But the aging definitely contributed to a rich, full bodied stout. Much prefer this one to their Black Albert

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
33 cl bottle @ hotel room, Brussels. Rated on 20.07.2010
Aroma has strong whisky notes, vanilla, peat and roasted notes. Flavour has somewhat stinging whisky, coffee, licorice, roasted notes and vanilla. Good, but the whisky is a bit loose here. Aging might do the trick.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at Gainsbar. Looks as expected. Aroma is sweet, booze, oak, roast malt, smoke. Taste fairly similar. Roasty, bit of coffee bitterness, whiskey, quite smooth. These are always nice, but maybe a bit too much whiskey for me in this one. Quite fruity, apples, smoke, maybe golden syrup. Nice but not quite as smooth and nice as the Kabert I had before.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
330 ml bottle. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. The brew smells like roasted malt, Scotch whisky, smoke, coffee, bittersweet chocolate and some wood. It tastes like roasted malt, chocolate, Scotch whisky, dark fruit, coffee, wood, smoke, and some caramel and molasses. Itís sweeter than I was expecting it to be, not that Iím complaining. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, itís a bit slick and creamy with a moderate amount of carbonation. Drinks way too easy for being 13% ABV. I think this is a good overall brew, definitely worth trying!
