The Black Damnation series is a dark twist of Urban’s mind. His idea is to realize a dozen beers with the use of Black Albert, and over a period of two years, that are as black as hell, filthy rich in the nose and with a massive taste.

Black Damnation III was made with Black Albert that aged for 3 months on Paul Melia’s (Mes) favorite Whisky, the "Caol Ila’s Distillers Version 1995".

Bottled. A pitch black beer iwth a dark brown head. The aroma has notes of tar, roasted malt, peated smoke, bread, and dark chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, alcohol, dark chocolate, bread, iodine, and peated smoke, leading to a dry smoked finish.

Bottled (from Struise Beershop). Pitch black colour with mediumsized reddish brown fluffy head, that disappears quite quickly. Aroma is nicely roasted malts, some alcoholic sweetness as well as mild peated and smoked notes. Quite stinging whiskylike sweetness. Flavour is roasted malts, quite peated and smoked as well with some wooden notes. Some liquorice, alcohol, toffee and dark fruits and berries have also found their way into this beautifully balanced beer. A very mellow and balanced Imperial Stout combined with some Caol Ila notes, but in a rather mellow way. As for whiskies I think Caol Ila is a borderline case for me, the 3-4 ones I’ve had have been way too aggressive and brutal for my likes.

On tap. Pours an opaque black with a small light brown head. The aroma is oozing with booze but also something reminding me of solvents or chemicals, not overly bad but certainly not pleasant either. Very full-bodied, plenty of roasted malt, again somewhat chemical - perhaps it’s just the heavy alcohol that shines through. Perhaps some age will mellow the sharp edges in this beer. 141110

Bottled, thanks baggio! Very black, dark brown head. Aroma of vodka and resin. Sweet and hugely full bodied with dense mouthfeel. Like dinking tar. Smokey and asphalt and petro - this is Jesus Built My Hotrod in a bottle. Inky bitter finish. I feel I just got hit by a train...

4th March 2010. Pre ZBF. Opaque black beer. Dark malt and some green vegetable on the nose. Rich dark malt with a little fruit in the undertone. Dark red fruit plus subtle dentyne/bubblegum. A little unsweet dark chocolate. Finishes dry. The Caol Ila is quite subtle but the peaty dryness comes through. TLingering bitter hop aftertaste. Tasty and complex.

Pre-ZBF ... deep black ... bubbly tan head ... soft chocolate malt ... deep roast nose ... little chocolate ... bitter chocolate ... light dry finish ... hint of raspberry ... mostly 80% bitter dark chocolate ... its the dark chocolate linger that makes this work
