4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle 750 ml at home, into a snifter, ABV 13%
Light gusher, nothing serious that will ruin everything around, but it keeps gushing after pouring a glass so I had to pour another one to keep it from spilling.
Pours a totally black beer, with a tall dark brown head, quite thick, great retention, steady. Medium lacing left on the glass.
Aroma is faint cherries, light black olive pit, some chocolate.
Very nice taste, dark roasted malts, quite some coffee especially on the finish, a touch of acidity, very well hidden alcohol.
Medium thick body, good carbonation, sticky on the palate.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: APR 22, 2014 75cl bottle shared in a trappist glass. Pours a highly volatile black liquid with an impressive brown head. Taste is Black Albert but to my taste a little subdued. The almost buttercream richness is missing but the complexity of the rum casks perfectly makes up for this and maybe enhances the berry notes usually present in a standard Black Albert. Cannot say which is better and for the price you could argue you should. Nevertheless, a hugely satisfying stout and a wonderful addition to the Struise range.

750ml. Last in our tasting of 2-4. Same belgiany nose. Yeast and white wine grape must. Taste on this one is Belgian stout. I do get a touch of rum. Sweet belgiany finish.

Pours black with mocha head. Tart nose like the mocha and mes. Coffee bean tartness with chalky filmy after taste. I think these need an acquired taste. Maybe I’m off.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle 75cl, a dark beer with medium brown head, got long gushing with 13° !! Nose is on wood and cherries as for an oude bruin with roasted notes. Aroma is sweet, very roasted, got the typical wood and oude bruin touch, donno if this is normal for it. Anyway bit disappointed about whole complexity, yes too expensive for what it is.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Currently drinking whilst typing. Lively beer; it gushed quite vigorously when opened which was highly irritating especially when I've paid a lot of money for such a beer, needless to say I licked the spillage off of the kitchen table! Aroma is rich and laden with sweet alcohol notes, liquorice, dark fruits, dark rum, gentle coffee and slight esters of sour yeast. Pours as a terrifyingly black vessel with a bubbly beige/tan head which isn't around for long. Taste is ludicrously rich, a powerfully sweet barrel aged alcohol note, burnt black malts, liquorice, slight coffee, red wine, with an aftertaste of a sweet, fruity and dark rum. Seems slightly thinner than a standard Black Albert, though it still has a big body and filling mouthfeel, it has a bit more of an oily texture; a tingly carbonation is present too. Overall, it is a must try beer! Hard to get hold of and very expensive, but being an explorer of beer; this was a chance I could not pass. Go get some! If you can...

Amazing stout. Pitch black with great taste evolution. Coffee is not to dominant. But the price you pay for a bottle is to high
