4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 11/20
Another massive imperial stout, more brown in colour but with a big moka coffee character. Not sure they are using only coffee beans, tastes of brewed coffee.however very good!

1/3 of bottle poured out from bottle when opened the cap :/ Black stuff with small circle foam. Aroma of sweet red orange. Sweet full bodied beer. Fantastic mouth-feel. I love this!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
I had high expectations for this one. It was a gusher getting me some trouble when pouring. Midnight black, big dark head. Aroma is coffee, boze, spices, licorice. I got no wood or barrel at all in aroma. Taste is sweet, thick mouth feel, bitter coffee, roasted malts, alcohol. Overall is good but not great. Missed wood/barrel profile and gushing turns me off.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle 750 ml at home, into a snifter, ABV 13%
Light gusher, nothing serious that will ruin everything around, but it keeps gushing after pouring a glass so I had to pour another one to keep it from spilling.
Pours a totally black beer, with a tall dark brown head, quite thick, great retention, steady. Medium lacing left on the glass.
Aroma is faint cherries, light black olive pit, some chocolate.
Very nice taste, dark roasted malts, quite some coffee especially on the finish, a touch of acidity, very well hidden alcohol.
Medium thick body, good carbonation, sticky on the palate.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein sehr dunkelbraunes fast schwarzes Bier mit geringer beigen Schaumkrone. Geruch intensiv röstmalzig, viel Kaffee, Whiskey, Vanille. Geschmack sehr röstmalzig, intensiver Kaffee, Alkohol, holzig.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: JUL 19, 2014 75cl bottle shared in a trappist glass. Pours a highly volatile black liquid with an impressive brown head. Taste is Black Albert but to my taste a little subdued. The almost buttercream richness is missing but the complexity of the rum casks perfectly makes up for this and maybe enhances the berry notes usually present in a standard Black Albert. Cannot say which is better and for the price you could argue you should. Nevertheless, a hugely satisfying stout and a wonderful addition to the Struise range.
Another bottle opened 5th July 2014:
This is hugely superior to the previous bottle and I have adjusted the marks accordingly (albeit not too much as they were already pretty high). Coffee is more prominent in the nose than the taste but the richness is toned down from regular Black Albert (in a good way). The taste is that complex I couldn’t pick out one identifiable flavour which is a testament to the balance that no aspect overpowers the other. Truly epic beer.
