3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 1FastSTi (3150) - Glendale, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 24, 2012Bottle from my trip to Belgium. The beer pours to a pitch black body with a tall lively dark brown head. The aroma is strangely very Belgian. Lots of yeasty aromas and candi sugar with some chocolate covered bananas and coffee beans and sugar cane. Very unique. The flavor is coffee and chocolate. A lot of unique flavors too. Perhaps raisins, smoke, vanilla, wood, licorice, and a thick molasses. The rum component imparts quite a unique character. Medium full body that finishes pretty clean for as heavy of a beer this is. A good beer, but to me, it doesn’t scream spectacular.

Hot and roasty on the nose. Raisins all over it some deep but not bitter chocolate in the mouth. It’s really a little too much.

33 cl bottle at 13 %. Nose is light organic coffee and light roast. Flavor is light roasted malt, mild coffee with some notes of soy sauce. Mouthfeel is oily with a medium body. Almost has a porter feel rather then a stout. However, I could just be a really spoiled beer geek. I didn’t get any hit of rum or aged barrels or wood. Decent and no way bad bit not top tier.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 neuromatt (858) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 22, 2013
330 mL bottle tasted alongside the first four in the series, served in a snifter. Pours black with a small tan head that fades to a thin remnant and leaves a small amount of fine lace. On the nose, there are huge coffee notes, along roasted malts, molasses and a significant rum accent. The flavour is moderately sweet throughout, with a light bitterness up front that becomes moderate. There are notes of coffee and roasted malts from the nose, but also distinct notes of rum and cane. The finish is long and roasty with a slight alcoholic burn. On the palate, it is full in body with a smooth, syrupy texture and flat carbonation. Overall, this is an interesting brew, but the rum did not work for me. 2012-08-01

Black colored beer with a very small brown head. Hardly any carbonation which gives the beer a certain smoothness. Nose of burned malts, pure chocolate and notes of coffee and alcohol. Strong chocolate flavor. Alcohol warming and rum flavors.
