COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Black Damnation series is a dark twist of Urban’s mind. His idea is to realize a dozen beers with the use of Black Albert, and over a period of two years, that are as black as hell, filthy rich in the nose and with a massive taste.

Black Damnation IV was made with Black Albert that aged for 6 months on very old rum barrels.

Bottle, courtesy of Meilby. A dark brown head, creamy and fingerthick forms over an oily jet black body. The aroma has a touch of alcohol, booze I guess, but in general I think it’s too weak. Coffee dominates, but I’d like more of it. Much more actually, and I’m certainly not a coffee drinker. The flavor is more interesting, at least the coffee is more evident, and there’s also some booze and dark chocolate. It’s full-bodied and oily on the palate, super soft. Lasting coffee finish with some booze. Certainly a nice one, but I’m not sure the barrel aging did the beer good. 120324

On tap at Pre ZBF 2010 and bottle at Mes’ Bite Hat Moon tasting. Wow that is a lot of coffee on the aroma. Massive coffee. Very smooth in the mouth and in the swallow. Lots of coffee on the end too. Lovely. Slightly drier in the bottle and the coffee is more balanced. Exceptional, if you love coffee, you will love this beer.

First sampling on draught at pre-ZBF, further samplings on days #1, 2 & 3 after bottling. Black. Dark maroon head, progressively thicker shortly after bottling. Aroma of burnt espresso, vanilla beans, bittersweet cocoa. Rich coffee flavor that would make Juan Valdez weep with joy. Far and away my favorite of the BD series to date.

Thanks Pade for buying this one for me. Opaque black color, big creamy brown head. Strong aroma of coffee and tobacco ash with alcohol notes. Fuller body than in BD III. Beer is very "dark": lots of roasted, coffeish flavors, tobacco ash, burnt malts. Finish has some sweetness, perhaps from rum? Otherwise not rum found here. More mellow than III but still quite alcoholic.

UPDATED: JUN 11, 2012 Bottle a Mes Tasting. Pours muddy black with a large, beige head. Espresso and mocha on the nose. Glavor is good and sweet, plenty of tar, chocolate syrup, coffee beans, light vanilla, booze, charred and roasted malts. Full in body with lively, chewy carbonation and lots of alcohol warmth. Roasty chocolate finish, lots of boozy tang, some coffee bitterness and some dark sugar. Really nice stuff. (4.4)

Bottle shared with Paul at the Hoppy Loft, Brussels. Pours deep and dark with a huge, brown foam head. Super thick head. Massive espresso nose. Sweet flavor with big coffee character. Lots of roast. Some chocolate syrup. Full bodied with medium, creamy carbonation. Cocoa and coffee dominate the finish. Awesome beer. (4.5)
