The Black Damnation series is a dark twist of Urban’s mind. His idea is to realize a dozen beers with the use of Black Albert, and over a period of two years, that are as black as hell, filthy rich in the nose and with a massive taste.

Black Damnation IV was made with Black Albert that aged for 6 months on very old rum barrels.

UPDATED: JAN 20, 2011 330mL from various samples at different stages in the bottle refermentation process. My favorite of the Black Damnation clones so far. The pour is jet black with oily viscosity. Even after a few days this develops some excellent carbonation with a massively thick tan head that leaves great retention and lacing. The nose on this in unreal: fresh, tropical, fleshy Colombian coffee with tropical fruit notes (some papaya/mango). Whoa. Taste is not roasted/bitter coffee but rather fairly sweet, bright, fresh coffee beans. Very silky mouthfeel. Awesome! 9/5/8/5/17=4.4

Tap at Paradiso Georgetown. The pour is hilarious- straight dark chocolate milk with a small, yellow head. Unreal fleshy coffee aroma, tropical fruits, super green but in a good way. No harsh coffee roast of grinds. Taste is fruity, wildly silky, fresh coffee complements a beautiful chocolate body rather than dominating it. This is some seriously good imperial stout and I am very proud to keep it up in my Top 5.

750ml bottle of 2012 release. Pours a black color with a bit of head. Slow gush. Rum on the nose. Complex rum barrel and hop flavors. Bitter chocolate.

Bottle, silk screened, shared @ Brouwcafé de Molen. Gusher!! Pours a very deep dark brown, reddish beer with a big tanned head on top. Aroma is slightly tart, molasses and loads of coffee with wood. Also some chocolate notes detected. Flavor is sweet and tarty at the same time, must be the infected batch I guess. Not really disturbing, but defintely noticeable in the palate. The coffee manages to overpower some of it though. Aftertaste is again a bit tart by the infection. Just good.

Pours a nice black. Coffee/chocolate and little tobacco aroma. Flavor is awesome, rich and smooth, like roasted espresso loaded with dark bitter chocolate and kinda sweet. The alcohol is well hidden among the massive flavors.

Bottle. Pours black with a small tan head. Sweet & roasted aroma with rich coffee, dark fruit, chocolate and vanilla. Flavor of roasted malts, dark chocolate, vanilla, roasted coffee, dark fruit, and light caramel. Creamy texture, full body, lively carbonation.

750 ml bottle, 2012 vintage, lot BDS0042012 with a best by date of 30/09/2018. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a couple inch tan head that stuck around a long time. The bottle was a slow gusher when I opened it, good thing I had the glass ready to pour in! Aroma is nice, the brew smells like dark fruit, bittersweet chocolate, roasted malt, oak, coffee, caramel and some tobacco. I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some molasses, tart dark fruit and a bit of vanilla. Mouthfeel/body is full, it’s creamy with a good amount of carbonation. For a beer that’s 13% ABV, the alcohol is well hidden. I thought this was a pretty good stout, I liked it a lot!

Pours dark brown with a bit of brown foam. Aroma is sourish, not really full, refreshing. Sweetish, even fruity actually. Not getting coffee in the aroma but it’s there in the taste. Some more roast bitterness and dry finish. I really like it, probably even more than some more powerful versions.

750ml bottle (BB 30 Sep 18) all to myself for my 500th rating. Should?ve been prepared for the massive gushing, having encountered this with other Struise offerings, and lost a fair portion of the beer. Giant mocha head having subsided, the beer left in the glass is inky black and oily looking. The aroma has some wild yeast characteristics, with a hint of sourness, complemented with dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla, oak, jamaican rum, leather. Massive flavours of licorice, dark rum, coffee, vanilla, molasses, a little port wine and a gentle tartness and bitterness in the finish, which balances out the sweetness nicely. Full bodied and very oily. Decadent. Warming alcohol. Absolutely sensational, only detracted by the F1 podium champagne-like opening.
