On tap at De Struise brewery, Oostvleteren. Pours very dark brown, almost black. Sienna-hued head vanishes in a blink. Aroma is leather, petrol, coal, squid ink, espresso coffee and burnt caramel. Mouth feels soft, dense, thick and oily. Taste starts sweetish, has a well-balanced presence of umami and sour flavours and ends in a very bitter, very long finish with lots of coffee.

15/XI/15 - on tap @ Flemish Food Bash - BB: n/a (2015-1572) Thanks to Tinus for sharing today’s beers!

Clear black beer, small creamy beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very peated, bit roasted, some caramel, dried fruits. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet, lots of chocolate, little bitter, very peated, nice roast, dried fruits, dark chocolate. Aftertaste: bitter touch, peated, lots of dark chocolate, coffee, cocoa powder, more peat.

Urbain shared BD 5, 6, 9, 10 next to each other. Shit man! Pour is jet black and completely opaque with a tan head and tight bubbles. Nose has strong peat notes, very earthy. Gentle roasted malts underneath, light coffee and whiskey in back. Taste is sweet up front, berries and malt, very peaty again, whiskey light in back with charcoal, cardboard, and soy sauce in back. Body is full with some heat and solid carbnoation in finsh.

Bottle at the Craft Beer Co, Clerkenwell, London, Tom & Ian’s birthday, bottle courtesy of Mes, thanks my friend for letting me try this! 23.07.11 Pours shark eye black with cinder toffee coloured head. The aroma is very whisky dominated as you might expect, Islay aroma’s leap’s forth. Dark fruits in the mouth, really rich with the constant undercurrent of whisky pulsing through. I had to dash off to get my train home so a rather rushed rating I’m afraid. A6 A5 T7 P5 Ov14 3.7

Bottled@Toms Birthday Bash (at Craft Beer Co). Pitch black colour, mediumsized brown head. Aroma is peated malts, alcohol, some plum as well as malts and mild riped dark fruits. Flavoour is being rather similar, but in a very nicely balanced way. Nice stuff.

UPDATED: JUL 23, 2011 Courtesy of urbeer at the schoolhous, thank you sir! Black color, dark brown head with good retention. Aroma of vanilla, whisky, dark fruits. Flavor is vinous and chocolatey with a whisky background. Tons of heat. Delicious.

Cheers Urbain for this amazing Damnation tasting.

Urbain shared BD 5, 6, 9, 10 next to each other. Shit man! Oily back with the thinnest remaining head of the four, tan colored wisps. Ardbeg immediately noticed, smoky, light wood, heavy iodine, bit salty contrast alongside the sweet chocolate of the base. More of this contrast in the flavor, lots of salty iodine fighting the chocolate, the malt drowned out in the experience but not replaced. I love the profile elements, but the X is way better.

Small dark-greige head, fast gone over black beer. Pure Ardbeg nose, Islay malt to the gills, phenolic, seaweed. Phenolic, Islay/Ardbeg maltwhisky with the accompagning heat, but a bit too unidimensional - YET. Heat, heat, heat - and velvety slick. Too young - needs a lot of lagering AND retasting. Many thanks to Urbain for this trial sampling!
