4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 phaleslu (4528) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - SEP 1, 2012750 ml bottle shared by bsuedekum- thanks a ton, Blake! Long-time want. Pours a midnight black color, so deep and thick, with a small brown head. Looks intimidating. The aroma is big and boozy, with roasted malts, dark chocolate, brown sugar, molasses, tobacco, and bourbon. Warms the nostrils and then some. Flavor of molasses, bourbon, roasted malts, dark chocolate, dark fruits, and ash, though it gets increasingly roasty and charred as it goes on and finishes. Gets sweeter as it warms in the glass. Later sips revealed caramel and vanilla. Full-bodied, with a rich, boozy, thick mouthfeel and modest carbonation. Man, this one is a beast. Fun to try, and one you have to share with quite a few people.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 jonno (2013) - JAPAN - JUN 8, 2013
I really dug this. The darkest brown head I have ever seen. You can actually feel it going straight to your head as yo drink it. Huge bourbon, cooking chocolate, coffee roast. Super full bodied, as yo wold expect. Probably doesn’t as give as much as you would hope, but still a mutha of a beer. Rich, decadent though not as filthy rich as the original damnation.

*dusts off notebook*
The whole expirience is much like walking through a stout flavored oil fire. Pours like 40w with a tight burnt umber head that doesn’t quit. Nose is full of black abyssal roaster malts, chared bourbon, burnt marshmallow, and anise.
Flavor is much of the same with bourbon joining tje party as it warms. Bakers chocolate bitterness and a sour tang to cut the unctuous greasy body. So much is going it kind of holds itself back. Everything in the nose and the mouthfeel is tight and doesn’t want to open up. Well done but could be better.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 TimE (2604) - Tokyo, JAPAN - JUN 7, 2013
Pitch black color. Pours almost like molasses in January. Unbelievably thick, dark brown head. The nose isn’t as huge as expected, bourbon and cacao with fairly moderate alcohol fumes. The mouth is fairly boozy, tons of bourbon, a bit rough with so much alcohol. My mouth is numbing. Tons of cocoa, lots of great favors but I think they are lost behind the booze. Then the aftertaste I nearly choked trying to get it down. Just too much. Very thick, almost syrupy though never cloying. A touch sour. Super duper over the top. Too rough. Not really my cup of tea.

Bottle. Pours a thick oily black with a minimal tan head. Aroma is intense bourbon and vanilla, alcohol if definitly perceptible but maybe not thrice as much as your regular imperial stout. It also has a nice depth with chocolate melding with dark dried fruits. Lots of wood and sweetness, but remains more elegant than beers like Black Tuesday. Low carbed but not flat. I can see there is some similarities with Black Albert. A nice experiment but a little too "hot" to be enjoyable. After KRE and KBE, I’ve had more eisbocks that night than in the last year.

Bottle at home. Thanks kalle koks. Bottle from 2010. Pours an almost reddish black. Siruppy motor oil. No head. Nice light brown lacings. Aroma: of course you get a whiff of alcohol, caramel and burnt sugar. Lovely bourbon and vanilla notes. Along with sweet liquorice. Roasted coffee and dried fruits. Plums, figs and prunes. Mouthfeel is full and quite siruppy, you get some warmth from the alcohol. But the abv is actually well hidden. Low carbonation. Taste follows the nose. With emphasis on vanilla and dried fruits. Very sweet, but not cloying. Some nice roasted bitterness in the end. A pleasure to try this.

Shocked at the drinkablility of this one. It isn’t drinkable but it isn’t as overbearing as it should be. It is extremely thick and complex.

Wow. This is delicious. I’m kinda blown away. Anywho, it pours motor oil black. Looks a lot like motor oil but with a tight dark brown cap. The aroma is huge with coffee and dark chocolate. Tons of it. There’s some nice dark fruit in there as well. Lots of molasses and caramel. Massive flavor. Sweet with all sorts of chocolate. It’s like drinking a very fancy wonderful brownie. I can’t believe there isn’t more booze to the beer. Feel is thick. Very thick. This is one of the best stouts I’ve ever had. Delicious.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 hamilton23 (551) - Alpine, California, USA - APR 6, 2013
Poured from 750ml bottle. Pours black as night with thin tan head. There are a lot of soft floaty yeasts in this. Alcohol is up front. There is lots of smoke and some barrel. I suspect that this beer is a little overrated.
5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 kimjongill (188) - - APR 3, 2013
This beer might be the fourth(???) I’ve ever given perfect marks to. It is 26%, but drinks like a 10% beer. The pour is black with minimal dark-tan head. The aroma and flavors are both very complex and full. In all, this drinks like a perfect version of Black Albert, which is a well crafted, yet deeply flawed (IMO) stout from Struise. The smoke and bite that overwhelm in Albert are present here, but well balanced with a malt that brings the flavors together in a way similar to Mikkeler Black Hole, but far superior in execution. Dying to get my hands on a bottle now...

It’s funny that pirates were always going around searching for treasure, and they never realized that the real treasure was the fond memories they were creating.
