#1000. Huge thanks to Eric for sharing this at DLD. Wow. What an impressive beer. Pours pitch black with little to no head. Aroma is dense molasses and coffee. Aroma was nice, but I would have thought it would have more punch. Thick or heavy mouthfeel would be an understatement for this brew. I swear this stuff is thicker than the thickest pancake syrup I’ve ever had. I had to chew each sip like I was eating more than drinking. Taste was more molasses and coffee, char, has a subtle sweetness, a touch of anise, and finishes with a touch of alcohol. Not nearly what I would have expected. I would have thought it would have had more alcohol to it. Its really well hidden. A real treat and a standout brew at DLD this year. Thanks!

Tiny little nip bottle sent to me by Simon, thanks man! Finally decided to crack this for my Bday, I think this is vintage 2010. Appearance, sweet jesus, this is thick chocolate tar with dense mocha head that dissipates pretty quickly. Aroma is big hits of booze, oak, vanilla, marshmallow, coffee, my nostrils are stinging. Taste is thick chocolate, followed by rich dense coffee, vanilla, oak, fudge, holy shit.. this is like drinking syrup, finishes with some heat, and a wallop of bitter coffee roast. I really had no idea what to expect from a 26% beer, but this is really something special, its like drinking a glass of bourbon coffee infused fudge. This is dangerous stuff as It tastes nothing like the abv suggests and although hot its fairly drinkable.. wow.

Vintage bottle sample & tap sample at ’t Oude Schooltje , Oostvleteren - BE. Color: high viscosity deep black beer with no carbonation and small brown head. Smell: roasted malt domination with caramel and barrel notes. Taste: amazing oily sensation on mouth really high viscosity and exposition of sweet and caramel with roasted malt. Bourbon and vanilla notes. Alcohol presence. Really amazing! Aftertaste: high sweet caramel and vanilla notes really. Workless ! Candy and alcohol notes. The vintage beer was more sweet and high higher viscosity, the tap beer was more malty and with high alcohol taste. AMAZING !

@schooltje from Urbain...heavy sweet malty, oily, choco, coffee, wood, wineous and vanilla...alcoholic but still very well hidden for its abv.

Tap @ schooltje Oostvleteren. Zwarte kleur, mokkakleurige kraag. Geur en smaak is fruitig, koffie, mokka, peperig. Volle smaak, stroperige structuur. Alcohol in de nasmaak is aangenaam.

Bottle. Cloyingly sweet nose of malt syrup, maple, caramelized sugar, a touch of blueberries, and very hot brandy. Pours muddy black with cola traces. Thick and smoky flavor, very syrupy with a heavy soy sauce note and a berry blend. Too thick and too hot.

This beer was able to drink in Tokyo. The was above all great It’s explosive power of scent. Strong aroma and sweet and taste that will not including the mouth felt until now comes surged at a stretch. Also impressive was easy to drink in spite of the frequency. Even it would be good to drink as dessert.

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2015 Bottle: Thanks, Mike! Pours thick like oil. Sloshes in the glass. Small cherry-tan head grows slowly. Aroma of super sweet prunes, dates, licorice, brown sugar, syrup, chocolate, light roast, & a hint of boozy oxidation. It smells heavy & robust, but still not quite 26% ABV. Taste is very sweet but still not quite to cloying levels. Dense brown sugar, booze, dates, prunes, black licorice, roasted malts, burnt caramel, lots & lots of dense sugary tones mixing with a strong backlash of booze. Gets a little boozier with time, warms up the throat & chest quite a bit. Dense fudge finish, burnt sugar, faint oxidation. NIce.

Black with dark brown creamy head. Looks like a greek coffee. Theres an element of alcohol in the aroma which is perhaps inevitable. Flavour has a degree of roasted malt bitterness and some lighter coffee and sweet vanilla. Thick, rich and warming.
