Black Mess was processed the double icebock way to proceed to 39% of Abv. This ale still drinks as a real beer, containing carbonation and a nice rocky head, the alcohol is very well hidden.

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2012 Sample @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Pours pitch black with a dark chocolate brown head that slowly dissipates without leaving much trace on the glass. Smell is sweet with wood, smoke, peat, single malt whisky, bitter chocolate and hints of vanilla, salty liquorice, alcohol and wet soil. Taste is sweet and bitter with peat, smoke, wood, salty liquorice, bitter chocolate, brown sugar, single malt whisky, resin, alcohol and hints of pine. Mouthfeel is tiny dry, sticky sweet, boozy, rich and full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with coffee, bitter chocolate and scotch. Surprising a beer of almost 40% can be good. kind of like a strange but good take on a scotch.

Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012: Tydlig fat, otrolig hetta, kompleka toner blandad med en tydlig whiskey karaktär. Mycket söt och lång eftersmak.

12-MAY-2012, draft @CBC. Black with yellow/brown lassting head. Whiskey nose. Mostly just whiskey nose. A faint alcohol and some roast. The roasted notes really comes out on the taste. Coffee and chocolate with loads of whiskey. Very sweet, very very full body. Oh, and the alcohol? It is there, but no way 39% Difficult to rate such an extreme beast.

Looks and feels syrupy on the tongue. Very sweet flavor and aroma. Black color. Molasses. Whiskey. Candy. Cannot believe its a 40%, like a beer-whiskey. Fullest body imaginable. Surprisingly smooth and crisp aftertaste.

Tasted at CBC 2012. Pitch black with little head. Expected the alcohol to completely dominate but this is surprisingly balanced and the alcohol is very well hidden. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draught. Laphroaig peat aroma. Black colour. Dark brown head. The flavour is nicely peaty as well. Does not taste that strong, actually. Surprisingly good.
