3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 Ungstrup (26268) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - AUG 24, 2011
Handbottled. A black beer with no head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, alcohol, and iodine. The flavor is sweet with iodine, malt, roasted malt, and wood, leading to a dry, woody finish.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Papsoe (25131) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - AUG 24, 2011
Handbottle. Courtesy of yespr. Pours a pitch black with a tiny, tiny beige head. The nose has some iodine and thick, sticky overripe fruits and dark malts. Very solid body, no carbonation, hard roast, smoke and iodine, very salty and minerally with a heavy booze finish. Not bad, but not exactly thrilling either. 240811

Cask (RBESG 2011, London) at Craft Beer Co. Pitch black - small brown head. Smokey, ashtray, peated, burned malts, salty, sweetness, high malty, high smokey, hard burned, high burned, burned dryness, a bit boozy finish.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 HogTownHarry (5655) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - AUG 15, 2011
About an 6-8oz pour. Wow. Huge thank you to Mes for the share. My voice reminds me that I said I can rate this in seven words: "MMMMM! ISLAY. ROAST. GOOOOOOOOOD. 39%?- NO WAY!" Seriously, this was creamy, totally not boozy in aroma or taste (Black Hole is much stronger in alcohol on the palate) - black, black, black, so much going in in aroma and taste, where to begin? Oily hugely roasted nutty malt, somewhat vinous, coffee, other fruits, underpinned by lush herbal bitterness, definite alcohol, some dark chocolate ... incredible. I will never have this again, of course. "Why do I think I’m going to be incredibly drunk when I finish this? Thank you, MES!!" (I wasn’t actually drunk - I treated it with respect)
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 ndon (857) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 11, 2011
Draft @ Craft Beer Co with MagicDave, Mes and HogtownHarry. Pours a thick black, staring death in the eyes. Thick brown head sits on top. Thick as susan boyle. Only slightly boozy considering the abv. Malty, slight medicinal kick, peaty. Definately some whiskey in there.
This beer is fucking awesome!!!
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 EdKing (1302) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 11, 2011
Served in a shot glass: Craft Beer Co. Colour is black like a stout with a stout like off white head. Nose is coffee, chocolate, but also apple, pear, earthy and a massive dose of alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter chocolate, burnt toffee, bananas, wood smoke, liquorice, toasty malt. Surprisingly drinkable and tasty for a 39% beer, although has a bitter and alcoholic welly kick in the balls at the end.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 KyotoLefty (4736) - Kyoto, JAPAN - AUG 9, 2011
Keg at Craft Beer Co., RBESG 2011.
Woody, coffee, chocolate, whiskety nose, with apples, pears, and alcohol burn. Black with great legs, lace. Flavor is hot alcohol, wood, chocolate, berries, whiskey. Tasty. Hot but doesn’t feel anything like 39%. Slimy, viscous mouth. Very complex, though too over the top.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Travlr (8002) - Washington, Washington DC, USA - JUL 23, 2011
Holy cow. Courtesy of urbeer. Last years at Urbain’s place I saw an earthmonk gliding across a field near the ostrich farm, at 4 AM after a night of drinking. I’m surprised that no apparitions appeared after drinking this one. It was very dark brown with an amazing dark brown head. Delicious whisky aroma. Taste was typically rich but the strength is not apparent. Well done.

Cheers Urbain for the share of these four new beers.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 fonefan (29292) - VestJylland, DENMARK - JUL 18, 2011
Draught @ MesandSim Wedding.
Clear dark black colour with a large, creamy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, light brown head. Aroma is heavy malty, roasted, burnt, caramel, sweet malt, sugar - honey, oak - peat, vanilla - chocolate, dark chocolate, alcohol. Flavour is heavy to harsh sweet and heavy bitter with a long long duration, wood, peat, dark dark malt, coal - ash, sugar - syrup - honey, chocolate. Body is medium to full, texture is creamy - syrupy, carbonation is soft to flat, finish feel is light alcoholic. Great beer hidding the 39% very well - but very very sweet and a very nice look - great head - special for a 39% beer - so a messy beer no - but you will quick get messy you self if you drink to much - Cheers to a lovely couple and we wish they will have many great and happy years ..
