4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
The beer is huge. But it’s normal for Black Damnation. SHIT is sensibly more hoppy but it isn’t Black IPA .... For me it’s a huge RIS, a very good one too.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tasted on 2/8/14 from a 750mL bottle at the RBWG Grand Tasting, big thanks to jtclockwork for sharing. Pours oily pure black with a thin tan head that leaves a thin ring of lace. The nose is caramel coffee and a ton of dark roast. The flavor is tons of bitter dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, a hint of vanilla added, and plenty of alcoholic heat. The body is fully massive and oily with light carbonation and a long caramel and coffee finish.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle split at home with JF, from that online Belgian shop - name escapes, 02/08/14.
Black with a well appointed tan covering.
Nose is light charr, dark malts, spice, pine, earthy hop, thick dark toffee.
Taste comprises dark berry fruit, cocoa rub, pine, dark toffee sauce, spice, liqourice.
Full bodied, fine carbonation - a touch cloying at times, boozey notes in the close.
Decent enough offering but no world beater, came over more imperial stout than CDA for me.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: AUG 23, 2014 75cl bottle shared in a Struise glass. Pours black with a light brown head which starts voluminous and is still present some 45 minutes later. I was reluctant to try this as I didn’t want to break my Struise record (all being fantastic) as I am not an IPA fan at all. I need not have worried. This is pure stout all the way - the IPA may have made the mouthfeel slightly lighter but the stickiness of Black Albert is still present. The aroma is strong burnt malt and candy sugar with (dark) fruits. The taste is perfectly sweet and the hoppiness of the IPA is not overpowering at all and even though it is only 40% Imperial Stout it is nothing but a testament to the power of Black Albert that it is not overpowered - in fact the contrary! Toffee, caramel and a hint of treacly toffee. Seems to be more of a sipper than the pure Albert variants such as Coffee Club however, it was a warm summer’s evening so maybe on a cold winter’s night this would have been devoured with more ferocity. Only one way to find out...

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
75cl bottle at home from ’t Drankenhuys. Very dark brown with a tiny off-white head. Full body with low carbonation. Sweet and boozy with bitter tones. Roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, yeast, vanilla, some dark fruits, little bit of grapefruit, spices, licorice, raisin and bourbon. A very rich full bodied brew, which is quite awesome!

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
75cl bottle @ the 5th Shrewsbury Bottle Share May 14, courtesy of me. Last beer of the night and I have to say things got a bit blurry by this point. Pours a deep black, taste produces strong leavy hops, a touch of barley wine, damson sour fruit, boozy slick mouthfeel. I have to say I expected it to be a bit heavier than this. Some dark chocolate and bitter liquorice make an appearance, alongside a touch of herbs before my all-too-small allowance was up. Looking forward to Coffee Club at the next share!

Cheers to Mat for bringing the cork and caged 0.75 litre bottle to the 2014 May Shrewsbury Bottle Exchange, four of us shared the experience of the brew.
Pours a deep brown to black with a tanned topping. Dark, dry chocolate notes dominated the aroma and taste for me, plenty of vanilla, liquorice and dark fruit hints too, but the dark chocolate held forth even when some whiskey flavours started to appear as the beer warmed a little. Very interesting and a worthy last beer of the night. My second Black Damnation and I’m keen to try more should I get the chance.
