(From notes on a napkin) Got to have this at an EPIC wedding of Mes and Sim. Poured a jet black with a big bubble foam head. Smells of pine, grapefruit hint of brown sugar. Taste is HUGE pine resin, and grapefruit right upfront and in your face followed by roasted malt, toffee, smoke, brown sugar, and then it finishes bitter and clean and you just want more. As with just about every Struise offering, the Mouth feel was smooth as silk and perfect carbonation. This was just about the perfect example of a Black IPA, and the best I have ever had. A wonderful Beer.

On tap at Mes & Sim’s wedding June 2011. Wow! Smooth, soft chocolate. Drinkable. Soy sauce. Mmmmmm.

Pours pitch black with one finger beige head. Quite lasting. Good lacing. Aroma is on the stout side: some booze, some pine, quite a lot of wood and liquor notes. Taste is booze, lots of raost, some wood, some plastic, some pine. Medium to full bodied, not sticky. Good carbonation. Nice complexity but the stout character seemed a bit overwhelming.

"Damn maaan, that is some pretty good shit!" Nice hops behind dark fruits and coffee.

Deutlich bananiger Antrunk, der sich dann mit Röstnoten vermischt. Wenig Süße, deutliche aber noch zurückhaltende Herbe. Der Hopfen sorgt neben bananigen Noten auch für die nicht störende aber auffällige Trockenheit. Gelungenes harmonisches Bier – mehr davon! 12/11/12/13//12

Boreft Beer Festival 2011: Black with a small off-white head. Aroma of licorice, peat smoke and grass. Dry and hoppy flavour with heavy licorice and peat smoke. Very bitter.

Pours black with a light brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, clod coffee, heavy flower, perfume and citrus. Flavour is roasted malt, cold coffee, flower, perfume, citrus and heavy alcohol.

Sample at Borefts Beer Festival 2011. Pours a clear and dark brown beer with a beige head. The aroma is malt, coffee, cold coffee, roasted and chocolate. The flavor follows the nose with additional ash. The palate is sweetness and roasted with notes of bitterness. Overall a good beer.

Pitch black, opague colour with an off-white head. Smells like blackpowder (fireworks), roasty and chocolate. Tastes as it smells with some bitterness. Great carbo, bitter body.

Draught @ Borefts 2011. Served too cold again, like most Struise beers on festivals. Stout notes dominate against the IPA notes, so mostly ash, coffee and molasses in the aroma. Some hints of sour notes, but the stout here overpowers the IPA for sure. Interesting though.
