4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 20/20
UPDATED: OCT 23, 2013 750ml bottle, corked and red wax sealed. Pours jet black with a small tan head. Nose is port wine, huge rich malt profile, port brandy and grape really dominate the smell. There is some oak here too. Taste is incredibly rich! Fortunately I split this bottle with 2 other guys, 2 small glasses is plenty! Strong beer, a fair amount of burn, but not bad for 22%. Highly recommended if you can find it.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle shared at Franks, courtesy of CallmeMickey - huge thanks Ryan! Pours a super pitch black body with nice, thick rich chocolate brown head. Aroma is molasses, rich port, chocolate, and cake. Mouthfeel is super rich and full with notes of bouron, chocolate, caramel toffee, dark fruit, and finishes with a warming oaky character. Would have never guessed the strength of this.

Bottle compliments of Ryan at Franks. Pours pitch balck with medium head. Nose of toffee, fig, mollases, port and chocolate. 22% is somewhat approachable. Flavors were super rich with warming booze, caramel, licorice, and dark fruits. Long lasting finish. Wow, this beer kicks your dick in the dirt alright.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap at CBC 2012. Deep black in the glass, small head. Intense malty aroma. Starts intense malty, modest alcoholic, not as strong as exspected. Malty, modest fruity like plum. Finish dry and a bit boring malty, modest soapy-alcoholic. All in all a bit disappointing.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012. Looking just gorgeous, a dense, finger-thick, light tan head sits on top of a black body, releasing aromas of roasted malts, dried fruits, something sugary, a hint of vanilla, some licorice and a quite pleasant alcohol scent. A bit too warming maybe, both in the nose and the mouth, but it’s not extreme in any way, almost making me suspicious of the claimed 22% ABV. Roasted malts and sweetness, some dried fruits and licorice, and a touch of vanilla in the flavor, with a pleasant bitterness showing up after a while, combating with alcohol and sweetness for attention. Full body, as expected. Certainly a beer worth drinking, but it’s also a beer you should share, no matter what the bottle size is. 120511

Draught @ [ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012 ] @ Spartas Lokaler, Faelledparken in Osterbro, Copenhagen, Denmark.
Dark dark black colour with a average to large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, dark chocolate, light alcohol. Flavour is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, chocolate, licorice, portwine. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. Hidde the alcohol very well ... Nice beer ;O)

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pitch black body. Thin dark khaki head. Nose is roasted with brown sugar, molasses, caramel, chocolate, and booze. Not getting much in the way of port barrel here. Flavor is similar with caramel, roast, and chocolate taking center stage. The port barrel (dark fruits and oak) starts to show a bit. Big, thick, and slightly boozy on the tongue. Lingering roasted finish.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
750 ml bottle shared by bsuedekum- thanks a ton, Blake! Huge want that I considered unrealistic, assuming I probably wouldn’t see it. Label and wax have seen better days; apparently another beer in the box blew and made this bottle less pretty. Pours a deep, midnight brown with a small dark tan head; not as dark as the BDV but still wicked. Aroma of molasses, roasted malts, dark chocolate, caramel, dark fruits, oak, and brown sugar. Jumps out of the glass. Flavor of dark chocolate, caramel, molasses, rich, roasted malts, more dark fruit than the nose (picking up more of the Port in the flavor), and some earthiness from the Belgian yeast, which is more apparent here than in the BDV, as well. Sweet throughout. Full-bodied, with a sweet, rich, boozy mouthfeel and low carbonation. Loved this one. 22% ABV is pretty mellow, especially compared to the 26% of the BDV. Great beer.

Bottle thanks to Blake, awesome! Pour is Pure black with a small ring of tan foam. Aroma is loaded with rich rosted malt, loads of creamy malt, dark chocolate, and cocoa. Oh my! Flavor is so rich with loads of rasted malt, Belgian yeast notes, light alcohol notes, and Chocolate milk. I love it.
