Cavie (1317), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Nov 7, 2009 Bottle courtesy of BMan1113VR. I got the very bottom of this bottle. Murky brown pour. Smells very bready. Sweet malts with some coffee notes. Very very sharp taste. Upfront coffee that is so sweet it hurts. Would like to try again with a better sample. BMan1113VR (2757), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Nov 6, 2009 Bottle via a trade with daknole. Pours with a fading tan head over a clear, deep brown body. Aroma of oak, raisins, chocolate, and coffee (rich espresso). Taste is raisins, dirt, chocolate, coffee, plums, slightly vinous, and nutty. Light bubbles and a creamy mouthfeel. blutt59 (2042), Dallas, Texas, USA Nov 6, 2009 bottle, thanks to bman1113vr, deep brown color with no head, chalky chocolate fruity aroma, flavor has some smoke, raisins, cocoa, nice body and finish Ughsmash (3979), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Nov 3, 2009 Bottle thanks to Keith! Poured medium-viscosity reddish-brown with a short-lived cap of tan head. The aroma picked up sour oak and coffee notes accented by a little dark fruit and char.. warm and inviting, but it still seemed to be missing something. The flavor found oaky tartness throughout.. light-moderately roasted coffee and black patent maltage at the core.. just a light earthy bitterness with some vanilla and more oak on the edges.. finished slick and quick with surprisingly little substance. Medium-bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. the barrel itself wasn’t huge here, but the underlying beer couldn’t quite stand up to it. TimE (1300), Tokyo, Japan Sep 6, 2009 Dark brown color. Big charcoal, oak, marshmallow, nutty, dark chocolate nose. Very distinctive. A bit thin body with charcoal, cherries and dark chocolate, but it is a bit sour. Lingering charcoal cherry finish. Nose promised more than delivered. caesar (3020), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands Sep 4, 2009 Bottled. Hazy brown color, medium off-white head. Aroma of candy sugar, brown malt, roasted, some dried fruit. Bit dryish taste, chocolat, coffee. Nice. daknole (2805), Plantation, Florida, USA Aug 30, 2009 Bottle from fata2683. Thanks my friend! Pours a dark brown with barely any head. Roasted malt, coffee, and a light note of red wine. Flavor is subtle but delicate and quite nice. Coffee, light tartness, light hints of raisins, and again some red wine notes. If you are looking for an imperial stout or big huge chocolate bomb, this isn’t it. But if you want an undestated and delicous take on the style...this is it. sayravai (3720), Helsinki, Finland Aug 23, 2009 (Bottled) Very dark reddish brown with a tiny, beige head. Strongly licoricey, sweetish-malty aroma with dried fruit and tarry notes. Flavor is sweetish, salty-licoricey, very slightly tart, and with low bitterness. Alcohol well hidden. Medium body, a bit watery palate with almost flat carbonation. Nice aroma, one of my favorite styles, and better than a too burned IS - but somewhat watery and boring flavorwise.
