3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle as Struise Black Jack Motverkar Tristess. Pours murky very dark brown with airy light tan head. Clear aroma of malt, caramel and fruit. Sourish flavour of off-grain, with notes of malt and coffee, with a dusty finish. Off? Needs re-rating.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from trade with 77ships. Pours an near-black, ultra-deep brown body with a huge rocky off-white head. Nose is caramel, chocolate, dark malts, bread dough and hints of herbs and black currants. Taste is dark chocolate, lightly roasted bread, herbs, wood and hints of black currants, cocoa and faint vanilla. Medium body and a slightly too high carbonation/head development. Pretty smooth as always from Struise, but not quite "up there" with some of their best stuff. Still a rather nice beer, all in all.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours thick and black with a huge brown head. This was a gusher. The nose has a distinct roasted coffee character with some very slight tart esthers from the barrel and some small grassiness. The flavor is somewhat sweet but has a good bitter presence as well. It's not very pronounced, somewhat dull. The mouthfeel is over the top lively. Overcarbonated. The body is light and the finish is somewhat abrupt.

Pours dark and black with a thin tan head. The nose is some wood and coffee, but unfortunately a lot of metallic from oxidation. The taste is sweet but has a slight tart profile from oxidation. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. The body is light and the finish is long. I think this bottle has gone to long. Sad really because the best before date is August 2013. It's not infected just not what it was.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle sample, thanks Carlo

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thick beige-greige head over black beer. Coffee, very roasted, alcohol despite the unassuming 7% ABV. Tad of vanilla. Roasted-light bitter, but with a serious sweetish-malty basis. Coffeebeans, but yet not overly coffeeish. Feels rather well-carbonated, very slick to viscous, light alcoholwarming, very dry. Basic, if compared to the Damnation series, but still a very good stout.
Earlier Rating: 10/26/2008 Total Score: 3.8
Small but persistent yellow-brown head over near black beer with reddish reflections. Sweet, alcohol, fusels, fruits preserved in alcohol. Sweet flavours, with liquorice mainly, but followed by curry flavour in the finish, exotic spices, peppery indeed. Well-bodied, grist-slickness, wheat-like slickness, sticky. That’s a nice one, guys! I can agree with strong porter, but Imperial... not really.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
330ml bottle (Belgobaren, Stockholm) - batch 14
Slight coffee and dark fruit aroma, in particular prune. Almost watery drinkable palate, a little flat. Had no head, no matter how I poured it. However, it was a nice dark black though, glass like obsidian. Sharp dark beery bite from the burnt roast. Maybe a hint of actual acidity too. Quite easy to drink, certainly no sign of 7%. Early finish has more sharp dark berries, then plum, and then softens to the chocolate/cocoa again. A pleasant strong porter, but not worth the 24e (195SEK) that we paid. Anna thinks this is a 3.8, but I refuse to budge above 3.6.
