Well known card play throughout the globe, famous black Swedish condom on the other hand, and now a Porter brewed for Jack Pano at Belgobaren. ""MOTVERKAR TRISTESS"" is Swedish for ""Prevent boredom"". After a lot of development trials, some even with the whole Monks crew next to the kettles, we finally launched this Porter aged on oak. Jack will happily propose this ale to friends, relatives, family & clients...

UPDATED: OCT 3, 2015 Imperial porter brewed for a Swedish customer since 2008. Thinnish, creamy, beige head, very deep and dark ruby red colour, practically black. Coffee and whisky notes in the nose and especially a very strong (and in the end somewhat bothersome) suggestion of ’baco’ (cocktail of white rhum with coke), along with caramel, tobacco, dried leaves, blue cheese, dates, peat, dried leaves, raisins. ’Dark’ taste of candied dates and raisins with a full, oily mouthfeel, malty and smooth, caramel, hazelnuts, in the finish lightly alcohol and lightly roasted but not very bitter, rather that ’baco’ sweetness lingering. Interesting but I like their imperial stouts better and I hate rhum with coke, so this weird resemblance to it did put me off a bit.

Bottle: Motverka Tristesse. Murky, very dark brown. Roasted, sourish aroma. Taste the same, dusty. Low carb. Strange.

Bottle as Struise Black Jack Motverkar Tristess. Pours murky very dark brown with airy light tan head. Clear aroma of malt, caramel and fruit. Sourish flavour of off-grain, with notes of malt and coffee, with a dusty finish. Off? Needs re-rating.

Soft gusger. Big slightly fizzy longlasting head. Aroma is mild, almost a little neutral, dark malts, roasted coffee, hay, caramel, roasted grain, chocolate, hints of unripe banana. Taste is neutral and harsh metallic, dark malts, burnt coffee, hay, oak, paper, burnt caramel, roasted grain. Medium bitterness, wery thin metallic mouthfeel, very high carbonation. Meh!!

Bottle from trade with 77ships. Pours an near-black, ultra-deep brown body with a huge rocky off-white head. Nose is caramel, chocolate, dark malts, bread dough and hints of herbs and black currants. Taste is dark chocolate, lightly roasted bread, herbs, wood and hints of black currants, cocoa and faint vanilla. Medium body and a slightly too high carbonation/head development. Pretty smooth as always from Struise, but not quite "up there" with some of their best stuff. Still a rather nice beer, all in all.

Pours thick and black with a huge brown head. This was a gusher. The nose has a distinct roasted coffee character with some very slight tart esthers from the barrel and some small grassiness. The flavor is somewhat sweet but has a good bitter presence as well. It's not very pronounced, somewhat dull. The mouthfeel is over the top lively. Overcarbonated. The body is light and the finish is somewhat abrupt. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours dark and black with a thin tan head. The nose is some wood and coffee, but unfortunately a lot of metallic from oxidation. The taste is sweet but has a slight tart profile from oxidation. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. The body is light and the finish is long. I think this bottle has gone to long. Sad really because the best before date is August 2013. It's not infected just not what it was. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
